Ithaca Women's Tennis Headed To Williams For NCAA Tournament

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College women's tennis team earned automatic qualification to the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship as champions of the Empire 8, and found out that they will compete in a first-round tournament match against Colby-Sawyer on Friday, May 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. The six-team regional is hosted by Williams. It is Ithaca's seventh consecutive trip to the NCAAs.

The Bombers are the Empire 8's lone representative in the 50-team NCAA Tournament. Ithaca is 3-6 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, winning first-round matches in 2007, 2009 and 2012. The winner of Friday's match between Ithaca and Colby-Sawyer will advance to a regional semifinal against Williams on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Ithaca is ranked tied-20th in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, and Cristina Nunez is ranked 19th among singles players in the region. The Bombers are 15-5 overall. Colby-Sawyer earned qualification via winning the championship of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) and the Chargers are 18-4 overall.
