Pitt-Bradford Outlasts Highlanders in 36-hit Slugfest

BOLIVAR, N.Y. -- Houghton and Pitt-Bradford combined for 25 and 36 hits in a 15-10 Panther victory in baseball action at Bolivar-Richburg Central School on Tuesday.

The Panthers opened the game with six runs in the top of the first to chase Houghton starting pitcher Seth Cornell (Almond, NY, Alfred-Almond CS) from the game. Cornell recorded two outs, but gave up five hits, three walks and a wild pitch. Jacob Kocher (Caledonia, NY, Lima Christian School) came on relief to record the final out of the inning.

Pitt-Bradford scored another run in the top of the second before the Highlander bats started to warm up. Houghton scored twice in the second, once in the third, and four in the fourth to tie the score at seven. Jeremy Austin (Corning, NY, Corning East HS) led off the fourth with a single, advanced to second when Patrick Parsons (Wellsboro, PA) was hit by a pitch, moved to third on a fielder's choice, and scored on a wild pitch.

Christopher McKay (Oakville, ON, Canada) followed with a single to score Michael Knapp (Brockport, NY) and Kameron Konert (Bolivar, NY, Bolivar-Richburg CS).  Jacob Bannerman (Wasaga Beach, ON, Canada, Stayner Collegiate Institute) singled home McKay to close the scoring.

The Panthers scored six more runs over the next five innings. The Highlanders added two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth.

Austin and Bannerman each recorded three hits for the Highlanders. Ignacio Villalobos (Brantford, ON, Canada, Assumption College School) added two hits and two runs.

Kocher pitched 3 and 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and three runs while walking three. Kevin Cassar (Mississauga, ON, Canada) pitched four innings, allowing 12 hits and five earned runs, while Jonathan DeDell (Woodstock, VT) allowed one hit and no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
