2013 Men's Lacrosse All-Conference and Award Winners Announced
The Empire 8 Athletic Conference has announced the Player, Goalie, Rookie and Coach of the Year awards for the 2013 men’s lacrosse season. The awards are voted on by the conference coaches.
2013 Men's Lacrosse All-Conference Teams
Player of the Year: Drew Simoneau, Nazareth
Sophomore face-off specialist Drew Simoneau started all 17 games he appeared in, posting a team-high 208 groundballs and a face-off percentage of .641. His 12.24 ground balls per game led the conference and ranks second in Division III. He ranks 24th in Division III in face-off percentage. Simoneau is the fifth Golden Flyer to earn Player of the Year; Mark DeCirce (2010), Ryan Hotaling (2007), Matt Kent (2003), Eric Goodberlet (2001), Jack Coon (2000).
Goalie of the Year: Scott Sidnam, Ithaca
Scott Sidnam started all 18 games for the Bombers in 2013 and amassed a 12-6 overall record and 5-2 conference mark. He posted a conference best 6.29 goals-against average and a .661 save percentage. He had 12 games in which he produced double-digit save totals, including a career-best of 16 in a game against No. 1 nationall-ranked Cortland. Overall he played 1038 minutes in net and recorded 6.99 goals against average.
Rookie of the Year: Luke Wooters, Nazareth
Nazareth attack Luke Wooters was named the Rookie of the Year after a breakout season. Wooters started 16 of 18 games played, leading the Golden Flyers and Empire 8 teams with 79 points (59 goals, 20 assists). His 59 goals broke Nazareth's single-season mark of 57 set in 1995. Wooters scored a career-best seven goals and added an assist in the E8 Championship game to earn tournamrnt MVP honors. In conference only play he finished with 24 goals and nine assists. Wooters is the second straight and fourth Golden Flyer to earn the award joining Simoneau (2012), CJ Estes (2009) and Erinn O'Hara (2007).
Coach of the Year: Rob Randall, Nazareth
Nazareth head coach Rob Randall has been named Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career, gaining his previous awards in 2001, 2003, 2007 and 2009. In his 13th season at the helm, he has guided his team to a current 14-4 overall record and a 20th NCAA tournament appareance. The Golden Flyers went undefeated, 7-0, in conference play and won the Empire 8 Championship for the eighth time.
Sportsman of the Year
One member of each team was named that institution’s representative on the 2013 Sportsman of the Year Team. Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.
