Lafaver and Svoboda Earn Weekly Nods
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Nazareth junior Jake Lafaver and Ithaca senior Alec Svoboda have been named the Empire 8 Men’s Track & Field Field Athletes of the Week.
Lafaver, of Syracuse, N.Y. and a graduate of West Genesee High School, won the 800-meter run last Saturday at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championship meet at St. Lawrence's Merrick-Pinkard Track. Lafaver's time of 1:54.39 was a personal outdoor best and qualified him for next week's ECAC meet.
Svoboda snapped the 6,000-point threshold to win the decathlon at the NYSCTC Outdoor Multi Championships. On the first day of competition, Svoboda clocked an 11.94 finish in the 100-meter dash to open action before jumping 6.28 meters in the long jump, throwing 11.34 meters in the shot put, clearing 1.81 meters in the high jump and closing out the day with a 53.90 finish in the 400 dash.
