Ithaca Men's T&F Team Places Second with Strong Showing at NYSCTC Championships

CANTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College men’s track & field team scored 148 points to place second at the 2013 New York State Collegiate Track Conference outdoor championships Saturday at St. Lawrence. Ithaca recorded five ECAC marks on the day and placed in the top five for the 22nd time in Ithaca's 27-year involvement with the conference. The Bombers had 17 individual and two relay All-NYSCTC finishes during day two of competition.

Ithaca’s ECAC qualifiers came in the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays, the 200 dash and the 3,000 steeplechase.

Ithaca’s 4x100 relay team of sophomores Rashaad Barrett, Tyler Curtis and Kevin Davis and junior Jake Willis clocked a 42.18 finish to win the relay.

Sophomores Kyle MacKinnon and Mason Mann, senior Matt Kastler and junior Brennan Edmonds teamed together to place sixth in the 4x400 with a finish of 3:23.72.

Freshman Jeff Hejna and Davis placed second and third, respectively, in the 200 dash with finishes of 22.22 and 22.25.

Rookie Sawyer Hitchcock ran third in the steeple clocking an ECAC-qualifying time of 9:30.95. Senior Ninjong Lu followed in seventh with a time of 9:54.22.

Three placed in the triple jump. Edmonds won the event with a mark of 13.30 meters. Freshman De’Marquis Graves placed fifth with a distance at 13.03 meters and senior Brian Maley measured in at 12.48 meters to finish eighth.

The Bombers scored two in the 100, 800 and 1,500. Davis placed fourth in the 100 in 11.14 and Willis ran sixth with a time of 11.17. Sophomore Dennis Ryan placed fifth in the 800 and rookie Larkin Bohanan followed in sixth with times of 1:55.82 and 1:56.24. Senior Nathan Bickell was the runner-up in the 1,500 clocking a time of 4:03.82. Classmate David Geary was on his heels with a bronze-medal finish of 4:03.93.

Junior Chris Stremmel finished fourth in the discus with a toss of 38.37 meters. Junior Brendan Wilkins placed fifth in the high jump with a clear of 1.88 meters. Mann crossed the finish line seventh in the 400 finals with a time of 50.42 and Hitchcock tallied a seventh-place finish of 15:40.21 in the 5K.

The Bombers will return to action Saturday, May 11 at Oneonta’s May Meet.
