Brooklyn, NY – Alex Puglisi ’14 drove in both runs  and threw her 10th shutout of the season as the Elmira College Softball team defeated host Brooklyn College, 2-0, Wednesday evening in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Quarterfinals. With the win the Soaring Eagles improved to 25-13 on the season and tie the single season record for wins with the 1991 squad.

Mikayla Bean ’14 bunted her way to first base with one out in the first inning before Alex Andrade ’13 laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Bean to second. After an Ashley Palmer ’16 walk, Puglisi came through with a single to right field plating Bean as EC took an early 1-0 lead.

Puglisi scattered just four hits over seven innings striking out six batters while yielding two free passes. It wasn’t until the sixth inning that the Purple and Gold added an important insurance run. Andrade led off with a single up the middle and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. With one out Puglisi came up clutch again as she singled through the middle infield, while Andrade scored from second on the play.

That would be all the Soaring Eagles would need behind a solid defense that did not commit a single error and the strong arm of Puglisi. The junior standout finished the day with a perfect performance from the plate going 3-for-3 with two RBI’s. Six other players registered a hit in the contest for Elmira.

With the win Elmira advances to ECAC Championship Weekend where it will have a chance to set the all-time school record for wins.
