BOX SCORE

The St. John Fisher College women’s lacrosse team fell 13-8 to Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute in a rain-soaked first round NCAA Division III Championship game on Wednesday afternoon in Troy, NY. Fisher finishes the season 15-4, which ties the program record for wins.

Kristina Lombard and Taylor Hughes led the Cardinals with two goals apiece, with Lombard’s coming in the first half. She scored the game’s first goal unassisted and scored again to knot the game at 3-3 off an Erin Ward assist.

Fisher started the game with back-to-back goals in an 11 second span to, with Emily Bryerton notching the Cardinals’ second score on a free-position opportunity. RPI settled in, however, outscoring the Cardinals 11-4 to finish the first period.

The rain made an appearance in the second half, slowing the scoring, as the teams combined for just five goals after accumulating 17 in the opening stanza.

RPI outshot Fisher 29-21 and also collected four more groundballs (26-22).

Sam Barton had an assist and score for Fisher as did Ward. Senior Kristen Zylka also scored while classmate Melissa Leonhard distributed an assist.

In net, the Cardinals used all three goalies, starting freshman Nicole Hart before changing to junior Caroline Trpcevski and finally senior Molly Naylon. Hart finished with five saves in just over 20 minutes of game time while Trpcevski stopped four attempts.
