Ithaca Track & Field Team Powers to Fifth Straight NYSCTC Outdoor Crown

CANTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women's track & field team won its fifth straight and 21st overall New York State Collegiate Track Conference outdoor championship Saturday at St. Lawrence. Ithaca recorded 243 points to defeat the second-place team by 90.5 points.

Senior Jenn Randall was named the NYSCTC Outstanding Women’s Track Performer and head coach Jennifer Potter earned Coach of the Year honors.

Ithaca hit 16 ECAC qualifiers and had 29 individual and one relay All-NYSCTC finish during day two of competition.

Randall won the 1,500-meter run in a school- and championship-record time of 4:29.52 to qualify for ECACs. She snapped Kate Leuger’s record of 4:30.97 that stood since May 28, 2011. Sophomore Hannah Wright and freshman Rachelle Sartori placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 4:54.05 and 4:54.54.

Randall also won the 800 in 2:13.91 to qualify for the ECACs. Senior Rachel Spirito placed fifth with a time of 2:20.12.

Senior Amanda Rissmeyer matched a facility record in the high jump, clearing 1.70 meters to win the event and meet the ECAC qualifier.

Senior Tammia Hubbard was one of four to meet the ECAC qualifier in the 100 hurdles. She won the race in 14.87. Rissmeyer was the runner-up in 15.47, sophomore Christine Benway placed fifth in 15.58 and freshman Emily Ziegler finished sixth in 16.05. Junior Alyssa Wu placed seventh with a time of 16.22.

Hubbard and senior Ebonie Howard met the ECAC standard in the 400 hurdles. Hubbard placed fifth in 65.20 and Howard seventh in 66.05.

Senior Carly Graham clocked an ECAC-qualifying finish of 11:37.82 to place sixth in the steeplechase.

Freshman Sarah Werner ran a 12.78 100 to place fourth and qualify for the ECAC meet. Classmate Eliza Dewart followed in fifth in 12.94.

Dewart met the ECAC qualifier in the 200 dash. She ran fifth in 26.11. Ziegler placed seventh in 26.56 and freshman Christine Kelly was eighth in 26.66.

Sophomore Alexa Rick was the 5K runner-up in an ECAC-qualifying 18:13.18. Classmate Carolyn Malone placed seventh in 18:54.71.

The Bombers’ 4x100 relay of sophomore Rachel Friedman, Dewart, Kelly and Werner hit the ECAC standard with a first-place finish of 48.87.

Sophomore Emilia Scheemaker won the triple jump with an ECAC-good distance of 11.74 meters. Freshman Kayla Prior placed fourth in the event with a mark of 10.89 meters, just one centimeter shy of the ECAC qualifier.

Sophomore Corrine Taylor was the shot put runner-up with an ECAC-qualifying toss of 12.00 meters. Rissmeyer placed sixth with an 11.02-meter heave and senior Colleen Garman finished eighth with a throw of 10.78 meters.

Junior Elaine Abdulky finished second in the discus with a throw of 34.74 meters.

Junior Martyann Chromik crossed the finish line sixth in the 400 and sophomore Alex Lewis was eighth with times of 60.24 and 61.53.

The Bombers will return to action Saturday, May 11 at Oneonta’s May Meet.
