Ithaca Wins Three Events During NYSCTC Day-One Competition

CANTON, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women’s track & field team won three events and earned 14 individual and one relay all-conference finish during day one of the New York State Collegiate Track Conference outdoor championships Friday at St. Lawrence. Ithaca has 12 advancing to Saturday’s finals. The Bombers hit 13 ECAC qualifiers.
The Bombers’ 4x800-meter relay team of seniors Rachel Spirito and Ebonie Howard, freshman Michaela Cioffredi and senior Jenn Randall smoked the competition by more than seven seconds to win the race in an ECAC-qualifying 9:26.51.
Freshman Brooke Zimmerman won the javelin with a toss of 40.33 meters. Senior Amanda Rissmeyer finished fourth with a heave of 36.05 meters and freshman Kristen Pompey placed seventh with a 31.67-meter throw. Zimmerman and Rissmeyer hit the ECAC mark.
Sophomore Alexa Rick won the day’s final track event. She finished the 10,000 run in an ECAC-qualifying 38:23.97. Classmate Meghan Cass placed seventh crossing the finish line in 40:31.43.
The Bombers placed five in the long jump with three meeting the ECAC qualifier. Rissmeyer finished second with a leap of 5.29 meters, sophomore Emilia Scheemaker was fourth with a mark of 5.18 meters and freshman Kayla Prior sixth with a distance of 5.12 meters to meet the ECAC standard. Sophomore Christine Benway placed seventh and freshman Lizzi Dowling eighth with jumps of 5.08 and 4.96 meters, respectively.
Senior Colleen Garman placed third in the hammer throw and junior Elaine Abdulky followed in fourth with throws of 47.62 and 42.43 meters. Garman’s toss met the ECAC standard.
Freshman Alex Rechen cleared an ECAC-qualifying 3.30 meters in the pole vault to place second and junior Shannon Meehan finished third with a clear of 3.15 meters.
Five advance to the 100 hurdles finals on Saturday. Senior Tammia Hubbard paced the way with a finish of 14.69. Rissmeyer crossed the finish line in 15.40, Benway in 15.61, freshman Emily Ziegler in 16.23 and junior Alyssa Wu in 16.36. Hubbard, Rissmeyer and Benway each clocked and ECAC-good finish.
Freshmen Sarah Werner and Eliza Dewart earned spots in the 100 dash final. Werner met the ECAC qualifier in 12.71, while Dewart clocked in at 13.05.
Junior Martyann Chromik and sophomore Alex Lewis move on to Saturday’s 400 dash final. Chromik crossed the finish line in 60.73 and Lewis in 61.41 during Friday’s preliminaries.
A trio will advance to Saturday’s 200 dash final. Ziegler finished the prelim in 26.60, Dewart did so in 26.65 and rookie Christine Kelly fininshed in 26.68.
The Bombers will conclude state competition Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
