Pierson wins long jump title

CANTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth freshman
Taylor Pierson picked up where she left off during the indoor track and field season Friday as she finished first in the long jump competition at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference championships at St. Lawrence University.
Pierson's winning leap of 5.42 meters (17 feet, 9 1/2 inches) earned the Golden Flyers 10 poinits int he team standings. The Golden Flyers are in fifth place after the first day of competition with 18.5 points. Pierson also won the same event during the indoor season.
Pierson also competed in the preliminaries of the 100- and 200-meter dashes and advanced to Saturday's finals in each. She posted a time of :12.72 in the 100 and :26.25 in the 200. Sophomore teammate
Hannah Brackley also will compete in Saturday's finals of the 200- and 400-meter dashes. She ran :26.57 in the 200 and was second in the 400 with a time of :59.65.
Other noteworthy performances were turned in by sophomore
Sibongile Chisi, who placed fifth in the pole vault after clearing 9 feet, 10 inches. The Golden Flyers' 4 x 800-meter relay finished fourth with a time of 9:37.73 with the team of
