Villeneuve Paces UC Women @ NYSCTC Championships

Canton, NY (5-4-13) – Freshman Ashton Villeneuve led the Utica College women’s track and field teams to a seventh place finish at the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Championships this weekend hosted by St. Lawrence University. The Pioneers scored 36 total points over 22 events in the 11 team field.
Villeneuve qualified for post-season competition in two events as she tallied second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:34.50 and also placed fourth in the 5,000-meter with a clock of 18:28.07.
Freshman standout Sarah Wiatr posted a leap of 11.17 in the triple jump, also qualifying for ECAC postseason competition, as she registered third in her top respected event.
Junior sprinter Anastasia Bowden registered for post-season play in the 200-meter dash as she flew to a qualifying time of 26.48, nudging the mark by .02.
Freshman thrower specialist Kelcei Edmonds finished third in the discus with a fly of 34.13 meters; missing the ECAC (35.25) mark by .12. Edmonds recorded a toss of 11.37 meters in the shot out as well finishing fifth.
UC returns to action Saturday, May 11th as the teams prepare its final competition before ECAC’s at the Oneonta State May Meet. Events are set for 3 p.m. and will be held at the All College Track & Field Complex on Oneonta’s campus.
