Saxons beat Centenary, move on in ECAC South Tournament

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ – The Alfred University softball team beat host Centenary College, 6-1, Thursday afternoon in a first-round game of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Championship tournament.

With the win, Alfred (24-17), the tournament’s fifth seed, advances to this weekend’s double-elimination round, while fourth-seeded Centenary is eliminated.

Each of the four losing teams in the elimination round is eliminated, while the winners move on to the Saturday and Sunday double-elimination round. The highest remaining seed after opening-round action will host the double-elimination round. If top-seeded Alvernia defeats eighth-seeded Marywood today, Alvernia would host and the Saxons would play the Crusaders Saturday at a time to be announced.

Third-seeded McDaniel was eliminated by Stevenson Wednesday. In the other first-round game, second-seeded Frostburg State is hosting the seventh seed, Catholic, this afternoon.
