Five Women's and Four Men's Teams Honored as Scholar All-American Teams
The Empire 8 Athletic Conference had four men’s and five women’s swimming and diving teams chosen as College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America teams for their academic work through the spring 2013 semester, as announced by the CSCAA. A total of 136 NCAA Division III women’s teams and 78 NCAA Division III men’s teams earned the distinction.
The Team Scholar All America award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the semester of the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships (winter/spring).
The Nazareth women were the highest ranking team among those from the conference on the list, standing at 13th with a cumulative team GPA of 3.55. Ithaca ranked 20th with a 3.50. Joining the Golden Flyers and Bombers was Alfred University (3.31), Stevens Institute of Technology (3.27) and Hartwick (3.06).
On the men’s side, Stevens Institute of Technology posted the top Empire 8 ranking with a 3.32 grade-point average to stand 18th on the list. Ithaca (3.22), Alfred (3.16) and Nazareth (3.09) also made the academic list.
In addition, the Empire 8 had 28 athletes earn an individual Scholar All-America award. The Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, for the semester or cumulative average, and have qualified for and competed at their respective national championship.
The Honorable Mention Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers, who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, for the semester or cumulative average, and have achieved a “B” time standard, but have not qualified to compete in their respective national championship. Divers qualify by competing at their respective championship qualifying meets.
