The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has announced that St. John Fisher College men's golf coach Bob Simms has been named the Mid-Atlantic Region Coach of the Year. This was announced last Friday as the Dave Williams Award for National Coaches of the Year presented by Eaton Golf Pride were named. Simms was a finalist for Division III National Coach of the Year which eventually went to King Campbell of National Champion UT Tyler.

Simms was one of just six coaches to earn the regional honor at the Division III level. In 2012-13, Simms led the Cardinals squad to their eighth Empire 8 Conference Championship in the past nine years and Fisher's second-straight top-10 finish at the NCAA Division III Championship.

He oversaw the development of Joseph Radulski and Chris Blyth, who both earned Third Team All-America honors for their efforts throughout the season.

The Cardinals also placed four student athletes on the PING Mid-Atlantic All-Region team and one of those made the PING All-Freshman Team, which was awarded to just six players in the country. Radulski, a senior, junior Thad Wier, Blyth, a sophomore, and freshman Corey Haas all made All-Region while Haas was honored with the All-Freshman accolade.

All of these honors came on the heels of six wins as team in just 10 tournaments, along with the 9th-place tie at the NCAA Division III Championship.

The original five finalists for National Coach of the Year were Methodist's Steve Conley, Scott Moe of Gustavus Adolphus, Illinois Wesleyan's Jim Ott, Jim Owen of Oglethorpe and Simms. After UT Tyler won the Division III NCAA Championship, head coach King Campbell was also added to the list. Campbell earned the championship and coach of the year honors in his final season, as he retired after the NCAA Championship.

Simms won the award after the 2007-08 season, in which the Cardinals placed third at the NCAA Championship after leading for the first three rounds. Scott Harris Jr. was the medalist at the Championship, earning the College its only national championship.
