The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) has announced the 2012-13 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, honoring St. John Fisher College men's golfer Thad Wier for the NCAA Division III level.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Wier exceeds each one of those criteria. The junior played in all 10 of the Cardinals tournaments in 2012-13, shooting more than three-strokes per round better than the award requires (75.84). He won the ECAC Division III Metro/Upstate Championship as well as the Empire 8 Championship.

In the classroom, Wier majors in ecomomics and has a cumulative 3.57 GPA. This GPA does not come easily as Wier is always playing a sport at Fisher, as he plays golf in the fall and spring while playing on the men's basketball team during the winter season. This season, Wier was fourth on the team in scoring (10.8 ppg) while leading the team in 3-pointers made (59).

Wier has been a pivotal part of the Fisher men's golf team finishing in the top 10 in back-to-back NCAA Division III Championships. He finished the 2012 Championship tied for 14th in the country, earning Second Team All-America honors. Wier is the back-to-back Empire 8 Championship medalist as well.
