The 2013 field hockey season officially began on Friday with five Empire 8 teams in action. Ithaca, St. John Fisher and Washington and Jefferson each earned a victory, while Stevens lost in overtime and Houghton was held scoreless.

The Presidents, who scored four times on their five penalty corners, fought back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to record the program’s seventh-straight win in a season opener. The last time W&J began the season with a loss was in 2006 (5-0 at Juniata).

Ithaca's eight-goal output marked the first time since an 8-1 win over Morrisville on Sept. 1, 2012 that the Bombers have scored eight goals in a contest.
