Naz, Stevens and Fisher Open 2013 with a Win
The 2013 men's soccer season officially began on Friday with six Empire 8 teams in action. Nazareth, St. John Fisher and Stevens each earned a victory, while Houghton settled for a tie with Oswego. Utica lost to defending champion Messiah, 2-1, and Alfred lost to Morrisville.

Simon Mounsdon scored once and added an assist. Nazareth rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to defeat SUNY Canton in its season opener for the third year in a row. The season opener was also the opening match of the 10th Annual Doug May Memorial Soccer Classic.
St. John Fisher 3, Cazenovia 0 (

The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team scored three goals in the final 40 minutes and picked up a 3-0 win over Cazenovia College on Friday in the Flower City Classic, hosted by University of Rochester.
After a scoreless first half that saw the Cardinals registered a 16-0 edge in shots in taken, Fisher finally found the back of the net early in the second half.

Joel Castellini scored in the 53 minute with senior
Jake Quattrini assisting on the play. Quattrini added Fisher's second goal, ripping a shot from 25 yards out just 11 minutes later.
Philip Brogan added an insurance goal in the 80th minute to seal the win.

Kyle Metcalfe played all 90 minutes and was credited with the shutout.

Jay Mikula both scored a pair of goals to lead the No. 13 Stevens Institute of Technology men's soccer team to a 4-1 season-opening win at No. 20 St. Lawrence University on Friday afternoon.
Phillips notched his first two collegiate goals on assists from junior midfielder
Kevin Calloway in the third minute and senior forward
Stephen Dunbar in the fourth. Mikula then added his first collegiate goals via an assist from senior midfielder
Curtis Stecyk in the 36 minute and bagged the brace unassisted in the 89 minute. Paul Killian notched four saves in net.
Messiah 2, Utica 1 (

Jonathon Peterson netted a goal 1:04 into the game to put a scare into defending national champion and nationally-ranked No. 1 Messiah College, but the Falcons answered right back in the fourth minute, and netted the game-winner in the 72nd minute to top the visiting Pioneers 2-1 in the season opener for both squads on Friday night.

The Alfred University men’s soccer team opened up the 2013 season, Friday evening, losing to Morrisville State, 2-1, in the first round of the Oswego Tournament.
Sophomore keeper Matthew Unick made six saves for the full 90 minutes.
The Saxons were able to bring the score within one at the 69 minute when freshman midfielder Graeme Corrigan netted a solo goal.
