The 2013 wommen's soccer season officially began on Friday with six Empire 8 teams in action. Ithaca and Houghton each earned a victory, while St. John Fisher dropped a tough 3-2 decision in the closing moments of regulation. Stevens, Nazareth and Alfred all lost their opening game.

Ithaca 1, Kean 0 (Box Score)
The No. 10 Ithaca College women's soccer team (1-0) defeated Kean (0-1) by a score of 1-0 in the opening game of the 2013 season at the Kean Cougar Classic. Sophomore Kelsey King scored the only goal for the Bombers, as sophomore goalkeeper Beth Coppolecchia stopped all four shots she faced in the contest for her first career shutout.

Houghton 4, Keuka 0 (Box Score)
The Highlanders found the crossbar as many times as they did the back of the net, but despite numerous missed opportunities, Houghton managed a 4-0 season-opening win over Keuka at home Friday night.
Houghton dominated play throughout the 90 minutes, outshooting the Storm, 46-0, and rarely allowing the ball into their own end.

Babson 3, St. John Fisher 2 (Box Score)
The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Friday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field as Babson College scored the game-winning goal in the closing moments of regulation to earn the 3-2 victory in the season-opener for both teams. Noel Peck accounted for six saves in net for the Cardinals.

RPI 5, Stevens 1 (Box Score)
The Stevens Institute of Technology women's soccer team opened up its 2013 campaign at The College of New Jersey Classic and fell to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 5-1, on Friday afternoon in Ewing, N.J. 
Within the first 19 minutes of the opening half, RPI (1-0) took a 2-0 advantage over the Ducks (0-1). Stevens cut the deficit to one goal on the first career score by freshman Gabby Mathelier in the 36th minute on an unassisted strike from the left side of the box. Sophomore Evelyn Ting finished the contest with four saves in all 90 minutes of action.

Otterbein 2, Nazareth 0 (Box Score)
Otterbein scored goals in each half against Nazareth Friday as the Cardinals defeated the Golden Flyers in women's soccer, 2-0, in the season opener for both teams. The game was played as part of the Rachael Miller Invitational hosted by RIT. Senior Abbie Carey made two saves in goal for the Golden Flyers.

Rowan 6, Alfred 0 (Box Score)
The Alfred University women’s soccer team lost a 6-0 decision to hosting Rowan University on the first day of the Rowan University Tournament, Friday evening. Senior goalie Samijo Scheer made 15 saves in 71 minutes in net, before freshman Bailey Tay took over to finish the match with a save.
