Utica Tops Cobleskill in 5-Set Thriller
Cobleskill, NY (9/9/13)- The Utica College volleyball team defeated host SUNY Cobleskill, 3-2, in a thrilling match Monday night. UC took the first two sets 26-24 and 25-23, before falling 25-19 in both the third and fourth sets. The Pioneers prevailed, however, winning the fifth and deciding set, 15-11.
Sophomore
Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) had a game-high 14 kills to go along with four blocks, while junior
Madison Bayer (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) had 13 kills, two aces, and seven digs.
Briona Enny (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) collected a season-high 22 digs, while
Cassi Brancato (Gloversville, NY/Mayfield) chipped in with 11 digs of her own. Sophomore
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) also had an impressive day, putting up 34 assists for the Pioneers.
Utica improves to 3-1 overall, while the Fighting Tigers drop to 4-2 on the season. UC returns to action Wednesday as it hosts nearby SUNYIT. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
