Brockport downs Nazareth, 5-1
The College at Brockport defeated Nazareth 5-1 this afternoon in a non-conference field hockey game. Nazareth falls to 0-3 while Brockport improved to 3-2.
After a half-hour lightening delay at the beginning of the game the first half saw a lot of scoring action. Brockport's Emily Corpin struck first scoring off a centering pass from Jessica Blind at 14:50.
Ten minutes later, Nazareth's
Cathy Stahl scored her first goal of the season on a penalty corner to tie the score 1-1.
Haley Potter took the initial shot on goal from the top of the circle and Stahl collected the rebound off Brockport keeper Lindsay Farrell's pads.
Less than a minute later, The Golden Eagles scored on a penalty corner of their own when Gina Stephan drove in a shot off a Jessica Blind assist to put Brockport up 2-1.
In the second half Brockport dominated its offensive end of the field out-shooting Nazareth 19-4 and scoring on three of those shots. Corpin scored her second goal of the game on a rebound off the goalpost to give the Golden Eagles a 3-1 lead.
Blind had a hand in the final two goals for Brockport scoring an unassisted goal at 63:20 and then assisting on a Jackie Massoni goal at 64:56 to give the Golden Eagles the 5-1 victory.
Lindsay Farrell finished with three saves for the Golden Eagles.
Shannon Winney recorded 10 saves in goal and allowed four tallies in 63:20 before giving way to
Mary Greco who had one goal against in the final minutes.
Nazareth is home again this weekend with back-to-back games. They face Hartwick at 1:30 pm on Saturday, September 14 in their first Empire 8 conference game of the season and again on Sunday, September 15 at 12 pm in a non-conference game vs. Morrisville.
