W&J Holds Bethany Without Shot Attempt During 5-0 Win

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Senior forward Catherine Villa and freshman forward Amanda Steffey both scored two goals to lift the Washington & Jefferson field hockey squad to a 5-0 shutout of Bethany on Thursday evening at Cameron Stadium. 
 
The Presidents outshot the Bison 38-0, 14 of which were attempted by Steffey.  Jacqueline Harrison kept BC in the game during the first half as she made 13 of her 24 saves during the opening 35 minutes. 
 
W&J finally broke the scoreless tie at the 26:48 mark on Villa’s first goal, while freshman Molly Hoekman’s first collegiate goal five minutes later put the Presidents ahead 2-0 at the break. 
 
Steffey scored twice during the first 20 minutes of the second half and junior forward Miren Zubillaga assisted on Villa’s final goal with seven minutes left. 
 
W&J opens Empire 8 Conference play Saturday in Hoboken, N.J., at Stevens (1:00 pm).
