Nazareth Wins in OT; Ithaca Defeats Cortland
Nazareth 1, Clarkson (
Box Score)
It took nearly 10 minutes of extra time, but Nazareth's women's soccer team prevailed at Clarkson Saturday in a non-conference match as freshman
Michaela Soules netted the game-winning score in a 1-0 Golden Flyer victory.
Soules' goal, her second of the weekend, enabled the Golden Flyers to go unbeaten (1-0-1) in their two-game trip the North Country. Soules also had the game-tying goal in Friday's 1-1 draw at St. Lawrence.
Saturday's goal ended nearly 100 minutes of frustration for the Golden Flyers, who had significant advantages in shots (22-4) and corner kicks (8-2).
The winning goal came with time winding down in the first overtime. Katilyn Sowyrda dribbled the ball up the wing and passed it to Anne Czelusniak, who sent a through pass to Soules near the top of the box. Soules one-touched her way past a Clarkson defender to create space for a blast that was out of the reach of Clarkson keeper Kim Kenline and settled in the upper left-hand corner of the goal.
