The Alfred University men’s soccer team improved to 3-4 (0-0 Empire 8) Tuesday evening on Merrill field, with a 2-0 victory over visiting Wells College.

Both teams were scoreless with at 0-0 heading into halftime.

Sophomore defender Nicholas Poindexter buried a header at the 76th minute, served by freshman midfielder Richard Lander off a corner kickgiving the Saxons a 1-0 lead. Junior midfielder Brendan Collins sealed the win for AU, netting a shot served by Lander at the 85th minute.

For the game, Alfred held a 17-13 shot advantage and a five to four edge in corner kicks.

Senior goalie Samuel Guy made seven saves throughout the full 90 minutes of play, for AU.

Nazareth 2, Fredonia 1 (Box Score)
Visiting Nazareth (3-3) got first-half goals from senior Luke Elston and sophomore Ramez Al-Hebshi Tuesday to build an early advantage and the Golden Flyers held off Fredonia (3-4) to take a 2-1 non-conference victory in men's soccer.

The Golden Flyers played without their leading scorer in senior midfielder Ryan Foley, who was out with an injury. They were outshot 14-6 overall and had an 8-3 disadvantage on corner kicks. They made the most of their opportunities, though, as Elston scored his first goal of the season in the 29th minute as he one-timed a shot from the right wing following a cross from freshman Lucas Bennett.

About eight minutes later, the Golden Flyers scored again as Al-Hebshi came off the bench to score his second goal of the season to give Nazareth a 2-0 lead.

The score went unchanged until the 79th minute when the Blue Devils put the pressure on Nazareth and finally scored when Jay Dry converted a pass from Jake Persons.

Freshman Nate Ripic played all 90 minutes in goal for the Golden Flyers and collected four saves.

RIT 3, Elmira 0 (Box Score)
An early deficit proved too difficult to come back from as the Elmira College men's soccer team (3-2) fell for the second time in three games, losing on the road to the Rochester Institute of Technology (3-3) by a score of 3-0.

The Tigers wasted little time before scoring their first goal of the day, as they scored just 1:03 into the game. The Soaring Eagles were able to regroup after the defensive letdown and get some good looks on net, but the RIT keeper made three saves in the half to keep EC off the board. Elmira went into halftime trailing 1-0.

The Purple and Gold came out in the second half looking to score the equalizer, but it was RIT who added to their score. The Tigers used back-to-back goals from John Kaddo, scored just 1:27 apart from each other, to break the game open and halt any momentum the Soaring Eagles had coming out of halftime. Nick Lapinski made a tremendous save on a penalty kick to keep the deficit at three, but the EC offense could not find the back of the net as the game ended 3-0 in favor of RIT.

On paper, Elmira played RIT quite close as the two teams recorded the same number of shots (15) and had the same number of corner kicks (6). Lapinski made eight saves on the day while his counterpart, Mark Reeves, made five to secure the shutout.
