Utica 3, Geneseo 2 (Box Score)
Junior forward Louise Steele-Norton netted two goals as the Utica College field hockey team rallied from a 2-0 first half deficit to defeat host Geneseo State 3-2 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.  Steele-Norton now has four goals this season and tied Shannon Rohacek '05 as the program's all-time career goal scoring leader with 46 goals.

The Knights opened the scoring at 11:14 as Sarah Malinak caged her fourth goal of the season as she collected a rebound and put it past Kells Casey to put Geneseo up 1-0.  Kerry Hosford and Kim Sherman assisted on the goal. Geneseo took a 2-0 lead less than six minutes later as Kayla DeAngelis scored her fourth of the year off a pass from Elena Hingston.

The Pioneers battled back at 31:17 as Steele-Norton scored her third of the year, off an assist from Colleen Dowling.  Junior Alaina Stojkovski evened the score ten minutes into the second half as she found the back of the net for her third goal of the year, also assisted by Dowling.  Steele-Norton gave the Pioneers the lead at 63:49 with her record-tying goal.  The unassisted tally came off a one-on-one as she shot from 12 yards out.

Casey made eight saves in net for Utica, while her counterpart, Dayna Mercer also collected eight saves on the evening.  The Pioneers improve to 5-1, marking their second-best start in program history.

St. John Fisher 2, Houghton 1 (Box Score)
The St. John Fisher College field hockey team scored two goals in the second half and improved to 1-0 in the Empire 8 Conference with a 2-1 win at Houghton College on Wednesday evening.  With the win, Fisher improves to 3-3 overall on the year.

Tonight's win is another step in the right direction for the field hockey program, competing in just its third season as an NCAA Division III program.  In 2011, Houghton defeated Fisher 5-0, and last season, the Highlanders won 6-0 over the host Cardinals.

Fisher never trailed in the game and after a scoreless first half, freshman Bailee Barrett gave the Cardinals the lead for good in the 40th minute with her third goal of the year.

Nearly 20 minutes later, sophomore Elizabeth Cusack tallied her third goal of the season to put the Cardinals up 2-0.  Houghton (1-5) scored with just under four minutes left and had two penalty corners in the closing moments,  but was unable to get a shot off in the closing moments.

Sophomore goalie Danielle Famolaro stopped five shots to earn her third win of the year.

Washington & Jefferson 1, Wooster 0 (Box Score)
The Washington & Jefferson College field hockey defense held the College of Wooster to only a pair of shots and junior midfielder Catherine Beaudoin scored the lone goal as the Presidents notched a 1-0 victory Wednesday night at John P. Papp Stadium.

W&J (5-2) outshot Wooster (2-3) by an 8-2 margin and did not allow a shot attempt until 53 minutes had expired off the clock.  Sophomore Morgan Brozena only had to make one save to preserve the shutout.  Both Wooster shots came on the same sequence, a mere four seconds apart.

The Presidents' goal was scored 10 minutes into the second half as Beaudoin stole a pass near the circle and beat Wooster goalie Meredith Farley to the lower right of the cage.  Farley finished the match with eight saves.

Stevens 2,  Fairleigh Dickinson-College at Florham 1 (OT) (Box Score)
The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team improved to 3-2 on the season thanks to a 2-1 overtime win at FDU-Florham Wednesday night.

The pair that swept offensive and defensive Player of the Week honors from the Empire 8 put in the game-winner 5:01 into overtime to seal the come-from-behind win. On the play, senior forward Marguerite Chavez inserted to senior back Megan Traub  on a penalty corner and Traub’s shot found its way in for the game-winner. It was the fourth goal and fourth assist in the last two games for the pair.

After a scoreless first half, FDU (3-3) went ahead 2:39 into the second. The Ducks gathered themselves, and responded with another pair of seniors getting the guests on the scoreboard at the 45:01 mark.

After a broken penalty corner, senior forward Rachel Chavez was able to control the ball, slide it across the circle to senior back Grace Ridge at the stroke line who tallied her first goal of the season.

The Stevens defense played well throughout, with senior back Katie Achilles anchoring the unit. Sophomore Briana DeGraaf gave the Ducks quality minutes off the bench, while freshman midfielder Nolie Prouty was solid attacking along the right side.

Stevens was able to dominate the stat sheet, ending with a 17-5 margin in shots and a 12-3 edge in corners. Freshman Emily Stukenborg made two saves to earn the win in net. In was Stukenborg’s and the Ducks’ first road game and road win of the season.

Oneonta 3, Ithaca 2 (Box Score)
The Ithaca College field hockey team (5-1, 1-0) suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Oneonta Red Dragons (5-2) by a score of 3-2 at All College Field. Sophomore Caitlin O'Brien and freshman Cassie Schuttrumpf scored for the Bombers, while freshman Katie Lass made a career-high 16 saves on 20 shots.

O'Brien got the Bombers on the board early as she netted her second goal of the season just 3:36 into the opening frame. Senior Lindsay Flanagan assisted on the score to give her a point in six-straight games to open the season.

After Oneonta evened the contest with a goal in the 22nd minute, the Bombers pulled ahead again roughly three minutes later. Schuttrumpf scored her first collegiate goal at 26:16 on a feed from fellow freshman Kelly Consadine.

The Red Dragons answered back in the opening portion of the second half, as Oneonta scored goals in the 41st and 46th minutes to wrestle the lead back from the Bombers.

Ithaca recorded four-straight shots in the closing minutes of the contest, but were unable to score again, giving Oneonta the 3-2 victory.
