The Ithaca College women's cross country team finished as the runner-up at the RPI Invitational Friday on the fast and hilly Saratoga Cross Country Course located at the Saratoga Performing Art Center (SPAC). St. John Fisher College placed eight and Utica finished 11th out of 13 teams.

Utica sophomore Ashton Villeneuve was the top Empire 8 finisher as she clocked a 17:57.4 over the 5K course. Ithaca junior Alexa Rick finished tenth (18:16.6) and freshman Anna Phillips led the Cardinals with a 19th place finish (18:38.5).

The 5K course is mostly a combination of grass, dirt roads and trails. In the first half mile, there is an approximate 200m stretch of pavement which runners are allowed to run on. There is also a grass shoulder to run on.  After that point, the only pavement on the course occurs when crossing service roads. The course is considered to have rolling hills; there are four major uphill stretches (about 300m) on the course.
