Senior
Sarah Wazenkewitz scored the game-winning goal with :21 left in regulation Saturday as visiting Nazareth won its third straight field hockey game by defeating Elmira, 3-2.
The Golden Flyers evened their overall record at 3-3 and improved to 2-0 in Empire 8 Conference action. Elmira dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in conference games.
Nazareth had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before Elmira rallied each time. Wazenkewitz, though, scored her team-leading fo7rth goal of the season with time wind down in regulation as she knocked in a rebound of her own shot that was blocked by an Elmira defender.
Senior
Jordan Ritchie scored an unassisted for for Nazareth in the first half to give the Golden Flyers the lead. Elmira answered early in the second half on an unassisted goal by Alli Gilbert to tie the score.
Nazareth regained the lead in the 54th minute when sophomore
Maggie Muzio scored unassisted for her third goal of the season. Elmira tied the score again in the 60th minute on a goal by McKenna Light. Then with overtime looming, Wazenkewitz came through for Nazareth.
The Golden Flyers had a 20-15 advantage in shots and a 12-9 edge in penalty corners. Junior goalie
Shannon Winney had six saves.
Utica 4, St. John Fisher 0 (

The Utica College field hockey team won its third straight and picked up a conference victory in the first Empire 8 game of the season, Saturday, as it downed St. John Fisher College 4-0. Junior
Louise Steele-Norton broke the College's career goal scoring record with two goals on the day. She now has 48 career goals, beating Shannon Rohacek's previous record of 46. She also became just the second player in UC history to record 100 career points.
Steele-Norton netted her first of the game just 6:39 into the contest. Junior
Hannah Mackey caged her conference-leading seventh goal of the season at 18:52, off an assist from freshman
Emily Gascon. The Pioneers went on to score two goals in the final two minutes of play to seal the victory. Junior
Alaina Stojkovski tallied her fourth of the season off a penalty stroke at 68:09, and Steele-Norton added her sixth goal of the season with ten second remaining in the game.
Kells Casey made four saves in net for Utica for her second shutout of the season, while Danielle Famolaro and Alexis Zakala combined for two saves for the Cardinals.
Stevens 5, Hartwick 4 (Box Score)
The Stevens Institute of Technology field hockey team scored five goals for the second time in three outings to defeat host Hartwick College 5-4 Saturday in Oneonta, N.Y.
With the win, Stevens improves to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8. Hartwick drops to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Despite controlling the stats sheet with monstrous advantages in shots (27-8) and corners (24-6), Stevens needed each and every one of its five scores.

Dailyn Brook started the scoring at the 8:26 mark, tallying on the back of an assist from senior forward
Marguerite Chavez.
Hartwick answered in the 22nd minute, but senior back
Grace Ridge sent the Ducks into the intermission with a 2-1 lead, scoring her second goal of the year with 1:28 left in the first period. On the play, senior back
Katie Achilles took a free hit on the right side and found Ridge. Ridge controlled, saw that she was open and pushed her shot in for the score.
The Hawks came out firing in the second, scoring 31 seconds into the half and again 5:08 later. Despite the deficit, the Ducks got back on track, generating a couple chances and nearly tying the score via a penalty stroke.
Marguerite Chavez was denied on the stroke attempt, but quickly redeemed herself to tie the score at three with less than 19 minutes left. Senior forward
Rachel Chavez took the ball deep in the Hawk zone, crossing from the right end line to her sister Marguerite who notched her fourth goal of the season.
Stevens took the lead for good 1:30 later when

Megan Traub on a penalty corner, and Traub banged home her fifth of the season.
Freshman forward
Taylor Welchgave Stevens some breathing room with 2:14 on the clock, getting the first of her career when she one-timed a cross from senior midfielder
Chelsea Cresci from in close on the left side of the goal.
Marguerite Chavez led Stevens with four points (one goal, two assists) as five different Ducks scored on the afternoon. Four different players pocketed assists as well. Freshman
Emily Stukenborg earned the win in goal for Stevens, making four saves.
Washington & Jefferson 2, Houghton 0 (

On a rainy afternoon at Cameron Stadium, the Washington & Jefferson field hockey team shutout visiting Houghton 2-0 for the Presidents' sixth win of the 2013 season.
A back-and-forth defensive battle for most of the first half, the Presidents (6-2) and Highlanders (1-6) played to a 0-0 draw after 35 minutes. Scoring did not open up until the 47th minute when senior Catherine Villa (Poway, Calif./Poway) collected her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Poked in from in front of the cage, Villa put W&J ahead 1-0, on an assist from freshman Lauren Brown (Novi, Mich./Novi).
Nearly 12 minutes after the first goal, a penalty corner opportunity provided the Presidents with some insurance. Senior Catherine Beaudoin (Barkhamsted, Conn./North Western Regional) set up the corner to junior Gina Taglieri (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach), who quickly fed the ball to senior Tori Patrick (State College, Pa./State College Area). Patrick, playing in her first game this season, connected on a perfect shot-pass to Beaudoin in front of the cage for the team’s second goal.
The Presidents’ defense and goalkeeper Morgan Brozena (Telford, Pa./Souderton) stood tall the remaining 10 minutes of action, keeping Houghton off the board. Brozena played all 70 minutes and recorded her fourth shutout of the season, making three saves.
W&J outshot Houghton 9-6 for the game and edged the Highlanders in penalty corners, 6-4.
