’Wick Women’s Tennis Shuts out Houghton, 9-0

HOUGHTON, NY- The women's tennis team faced off against Houghton for the first time in program history and the Hawks came away victorious with a 9-0 win over the Highlanders on Saturday afternoon. Hartwick moves to 3-4 on the year while Houghton falls to 2-7.

'Wick swept both the doubles and singles matches for the second time this season. The pair of Kristen Napolitano (Mt. Sinai, NY/Mt. Sinai) and Lauren Noyes (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) improved to 5-2 in third doubles with an 8-2 win over Lisa Jones and Triana Santiago.

Ruthie Jones (Ossining, NY/Ossining) and Nicole Schepisi (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) won in first doubles 8-1 over Lisa Cheesbro and Amanda Wojcinski while Rebecca Clark (Mexico, NY/Mexico) and Michaela Finnegan (Cumberland, ME/Greely) were winners over Jennifer Iacucci and Hannah Hale 8-0.

In singles play, Jones went to a tiebreaker with Lisa Cheesbro and came out with a 6-2, 7-6, 7-2 winner. Schepisi improved to 5-2 on the year as she was victorious over Molly Friehofer 6-2, 6-3. Caitlin O'Brien (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) also raised her record to 5-2 in a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Jennifer Mechler.

Other winners in the singles portion included Clark (6-1, 6-2 vs. Iacucci), Napolitano (6-0, 6-1 vs. Lisa Jones), and Noyes (6-1, 6-3 vs. Hale). Clark and Napolitano both picked up their fourth wins of 2013 while Noyes won her third.

Hartwick is back in action tomorrow with an Empire 8 match against Elmira. Match time is at 11 a.m.
