Hayes Advances To Round Of 16 At Men's Tennis ITA Regionals

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca College men's tennis team hosted and competed in the 2013 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional. Matches began Friday and concluded Sunday in the 64-player singles bracket and the 32-player doubles bracket. Oliver Loutsenko of Skidmore won the singles championship.

Ithaca sophomore Chris Hayes (Rochester/Brighton) advanced to the round of 16 in singles play with two victories on Friday. In the opening round, Hayes posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Matt Levine of Rochester, who was seeded 14th in the bracket. In the second round, Hayes pulled out a 7-5, 6-4 win over Rob Schmitz of St. Lawrence. Hayes fell to the tournament's fifth seed, Miles Ransom of Skidmore, in the round of 16 on Saturday morning.

Ithaca's other singles participants, Griffin Reid (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) and Wes Davis (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day), lost opening-round matches. In doubles play, both of Ithaca's teams were knocked out in the first round. Justin Levine (Highland Mills/Monroe Woodbury) and Wes Davis (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) fell 8-3 against the top-seeded team from Skidmore, while David Andersen (Hastings on Hudson/Hastings) and Zach Passman (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) fell to the third-seeded team from Rensselaer by an 8-5 score.
