Stevens Completes Play at ITA Northeast Regional; Rookie Doubles Squad Reaches Semis

ITHACA, N.Y. (September 21, 2013) – The Stevens Institute of Technology men's tennis team completed play at the ITA Northeast Regional tournament Saturday in Ithaca, N.Y.
Sophomore
Matthew Heinrich (Hendersonville, Tenn.) reached the quarterfinals of the singles draw, eventually falling to Steven Wu of New York University, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5. Heinrich rolled, 6-0, 6-0 in the first round and 6-2, 6-2 in the second.
Six players reached the second round of the tournament, with two falling in a third-set tiebreak.
"As a whole, it was a very strong showing for us this weekend at the ITA's," Head Coach
Steve Gachko (Hoboken, N.J.) said. "Our guys lost some very close matches to great players, and many of them could have gone either way."
Freshman
Charles Drake (Hilton Head, S.C.) and freshman
Michael Feldman (Alamo, Calif.) advanced to the quarterfinals of the double draw, as did Heinrich and classmate
Ben Foran (Whitefish Bay, Wis.). Drake and Feldman reached the semis with a 9-8 decision against Pierce Cooper and Mike Stanley of TCNJ, but the quarters saw Heinich and Foran fall by the same tally.
Feldman and Drake's run stalled in the in the final four, dropping their match by an 8-1 final.
We couldn't be more proud of our guy with how they represented Stevens this weekend," added Gachko. They showed a lot of fight, great focus and excellent attitude on the court."
