Ithaca Places Second At Mount Holyoke Invitational
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Ithaca College women's golf team posted consistent scores throughout its lineup on both days and finished second at the highly-competitive Mount Holyoke Invitational, being played at The Orchards. Ithaca finished with a two-day total of 631, and posted the lowest team score of the second round with a 314 in windy conditions. Ithaca finished 12 strokes behind Williams, which opened the tournament with a school-record score of 304. Williams was ranked eighth in the preseason poll, while Ithaca was ranked 15th.
Sharon Li (Happy Valley, Hong Kong/Hong Kong International) was the individual medalist at the tournament with a second-round score of 73 for a two-day total of 150. Li entered the final round two strokes behind a group of leaders, but her stellar effort on Sunday resulted in her eighth tournament individual title in the last nine events. She finished two strokes ahead of the second-place player.
WIth team scores of 317 in the opening round and 314 in the second round, it marks five times in six rounds this season that Ithaca has bettered 320.
Three Ithaca players tied with weekend totals of 161. Kelsey Baker (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) led that group with a score of 79 on Sunday. Amanda Failla (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) shot 80 on Sunday and Kimberley Wong (Shouson Hill Road, Hong Kong/German Swiss International School) scored 82 on Sunday.
Ithaca's five individuals in the lineup all scored within five shots of one another in the opening round. Sharon Li (Happy Valley, Hong Kong/Hong Kong International) led the way with a 77. Kimberley Wong (Shouson Hill Road, Hong Kong/German Swiss International School) posted a collegiate-best 79 and Lisa Calcasola (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) shot 80, with a back-nine score of 37, the best of the day for Ithaca. Amanda Failla (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) shot 81 and Kelsey Baker (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) shot 82.
Ithaca competes next weekend at the Martin-Wallace Invitational hosted by Cortland at Elm Tree Golf Course and the Cortland Country Club.
