Elmira Downs Alfred State, 3-1
Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team redeemed their weekend loss to Alfred State tonight as the Soaring Eagles defeated the Lady Pioneers, 3-1.
Taryn Rumsey '14 led the EC charge with a team high 19 kills and 19 digs.
Elmira opened tonight's match in good form as they controlled the early going by winning the first set, 25-19. The Lady Pioneers responded by rallying late in the second set to even things up at one set apiece. However, the Soaring Eagles pieced together two strong sets in the third and fourth to seal their 10th win of the season.
Rumsey led the Elmira offense as she posted 19 kills while
Kierstin Derr '16 added a double-digit kill effort with 13.
Sami Hanes '16 and
Sara Pieniazek '17 set the table for the EC offense as they combined for 37 assists on the night. Defensively, four EC players posted double-digit digs;
Catherine Miller '14 led the defense with 20 digs while Rumsey, Derr, and
Kelsey Ross '16 had 19, 15, and 12 respectively.
The EC Women will look to build on today's win as they travel to Williamsport, PA this weekend to compete in the Lycoming College Invitational.
