Fisher and Utica Suffer Loss


Stevens 6, Muhlenberg 3
Junior Jessica Bourque, junior Elena Cocineva-Lenge and senior Lisa Tessitore were all part of doubles and singles wins as the Stevens Institute of Technology women's tennis team improved to 7-0 overall with a 6-3 non-conference victory over Muhlenberg College Wednesday in Hoboken.
 
Bourque and Tessitore earned a win at first doubles, 8-3 over senior Emily Szulman and junior Jennifer Goldberg, with junior Danielle Stewart and Cocineva-Lenge rolling 8-1 over junior Danni Yaron and freshman Jamie Rosenblum.
 
The Ducks dropped their third doubles match to head into singles action with a 2-1 margin. At No. 1, Bourque won 6-2, 6-3 over Szulman, with Tessitore earning a tough 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 decision at second singles.
 
Muhlenberg took Nos. 3 and 5 singles, but Cocineva downed Yaron in the fourth slot and freshman Lily Bruenjes defeated sophomore Jenny Levenson in the sixth spot. Bruenjes prevailed 7-5, 7-5 in her match, with Cocineva-Lenge coming back for a 1-6, 7-6, 7-5 win.
 
The Ducks – who have yet to be defeated this year – have dropped only 10 individual matches all season while winning 52.


Oswego 6, St. John Fisher 3
The St. John Fisher College women's tennis team fell in a 6-3 decision to Oswego State in a non-conference matchup Wednesday at the Mendon Racquet Club.

Lauren Burke led the way for Fisher combining to win in both first singles and first doubles.  The senior took first singles 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) and combined with freshman Rosalie O'Brien to win 9-8 (7-3) in first doubles.

Catie Nonenmacher and Olivia Rotondo picked up the third point for the Cardinals winning in third singles 8-6.


Hamilton 9, Utica 0
The Utica College women's tennis team lost, 9-0, Wednesday afternoon to local rival Hamilton College, in non-conference play, at the Grey Tennis Courts.  Freshman Erin Burchill scored three points in two sets to lead the Pioneers.

Burchill lost 6-1 and 6-2 in singles play while also being defeated in doubles competition, 8-1, as she teamed up with senior Rose Zaloom.  Zaloom and freshman Gabrielle Moreall both lost 6-0 and 6-1 in singles registering UC's only other points in heads-up action. Sophomore Doni Look and freshman Anastasia FItpatrick lost in team play, 8-1.
