The Alfred University women's tennis team shut out visiting Pitt-Bradford Thursday afternoon.
AU (3-7) got singles wins from junior Brennan Ferguson, 6-3, 6-1 in first singles; freshman Rachel Cook, 6-0, 6-1 in second singles; junior Emily Eisenberg, 6-1, 6-3 in third singles; freshman Alexandra Smith, 6-3, 6-2 in fourth singles; junior Paige Beeber, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 in fifth singles; and senior Bethany Dickerson, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) in sixth singles.
In doubles play, Ferguson and Cook won first doubles, 8-2; Eisenberg and Smith took second doubles, 8-3; and senior Alison Clemente and Dickerson won third doubles, 8-6.
Oneonta 9, Hartwick 0
Cross-city rivals Oneonta State and Hartwick faced off in women's tennis on Thursday afternoon at Hartwick's courts. Despite forcing three super-tiebreakers, the Hawks fell to the Red Dragons 9-0. The loss drops the Hawks to 4-6 on the year while O-State improves to 6-2.
The Red Dragons swept the doubles matches. In the singles portion of the competition,
Ruthie Jones took Brynn Sussman to a super-tiebreak where she fell 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.
Nicole Schepisi and Emily Maggiore also played to a super tiebreak while Maggiore came out on top 7-5, 3-6, 10-2.
Lauren Noyes battled with Riane Reithel and fought a tough match but was outlasted by her opponent 6-2, 6-7, 10-8.
