Houghton Gets First Win of Season over Wells

AURORA, N.Y. -- After two scoreless losses to open the season, the Highlanders field hockey team got back to their winning ways with a 5-0 win over Wells College on Tuesday.
Adria Bridgwood scored twice in the first half and Colleen Sullivan and Maesa Phongsamouth each scored to stake the Highlanders to a 4-0 halftime lead.
Tyler Reese scored in the 64th minute for the final Houghton goal.
Houghton held a 23-1 advantage in shots and 13-1 in penalty corners.
Emily Thompson stopped the only shot she faced in 67:43 minutes of action. Carly Congilosi played the final 2:17 and did not face a shot.
"I was pleased with the overall team effort today," said Head Coach Rachael Snelgrove." We had difficulty producing offensive opportunities in our first two games, but we were able to find the connection today.
"I love that we had a number of different players score. I love the unity I saw on the field."
Houghton (1-2) is back in action on the road Saturday, September 7, when they travel to take on Ohio Wesleyan University.
