FREDONIA, N.Y. -- A goal from senior Paul Seddon (Wirral, England, Birkenhead Sixth Form) in the sixth minute was all the scoring the Highlanders needed to edge Buffalo State, 1-0, on the first day of the Fredonia State 2013 Blue Devil Clarion Inn Classic on Friday.

"We played much better today. Paul had a great goal," said Head Coach Matt Webb. "Buff State put us under pressure early in the second half, but we handled it and managed the game well. Buff State was a much improved team from last year, so this was a good win for us."

Matt Munkittrick (Ottawa, Ontario, Canterbury) picked up the assist on Seddon's goal.

The Bengals outshot the Highlanders, 12-9, including a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. Corners were 7-0 in Houghton's favor.

Highlander keeper Jacob Dunnett (Quispamsis, New Brunswick, Kennebecasis) continued his strong play in net, making five stops on the night.

Houghton returns to action on Saturday at 5 p.m. against the host Fredonia Blue Devils.
