ALFRED v Keuka
The Alfred University volleyball team fell to the Keuka College in the first day of action at the Keuka College Tournament. Keuka (3-0) defeated Alfred (2-3) in three sets, winning by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-14.

Alfred was led by senior Samantha Wood with four kills and threre blocks; senior Chelsea Hall with four kills and six digs; and senior paige Jensen with four kills, two blocks and five digs.

HARTWICK v Mount Union | Scranton 
Hartwick women's volleyball lost in a pair of matches to Mount Union and Scranton on Friday in Rochester at the Nazareth College Golden Flyer Invitational. The Purple Raiders and the Royals each knocked off the Hawks in three games.

The Hawks had a tough time against nationally 11th ranked Mount Union, which was an NCAA Tournament participant in 2012 and entered the match unbeaten. The Hawks lost 25-12, 25-11, and 25-13.

Dana Martin registered the team-high in kills with six. Christina Vitale  and Alyssa Zeitler  each notched six digs.

In the Hawks' nightcap against Scranton, Martin had seven kills, Hannah Strom recorded five, and Ashlynn Mohan added four, but it wasn't enough as the Royals registered the win, 25-23, 25-18, 25-16.

Hannah Armstrong dished out 12 assists for the Hawks. Martin (7) and Zeitler (6) combined for 13 digs. 


HOUGHTON v Alfred State
While on the road, Houghton volleyball continues its winning streak after defeating Alfred State in day one of the Keuka College Tournament on Friday. The Pioneers were outscored in all three games (25-16, 25-19, 25-18).

Hattie Burgher led the Highlanders with 12 kills, 9 digs, and 2 blocks. Alicia Needham  played strong offensively with 8 kills and 3 aces, as well as hitting .57%. On the defensive end, Jaime Green  contributed with 27 assists and 11 digs, Laurel Wroblicky with 24 digs, and Hannah Compeau claimed 15 digs.


ITHACA v Cazenovia | Widener 
The Ithaca College volleyball team (2-3) stole a straight-set win, 3-0 (25-9, 25-13, 25-16), from visiting Cazenovia (2-5) in its home opener Friday night, before falling to Widener (4-3), 3-0 (25-9, 25-21, 25-22) on day one of the Bomber Invitational. It is the first contest to be hosted in Ithaca's renovated Ben Light Gymnasium.

Ithaca hit .338 against Cazenovia, highlighted by a .500 first-set performance.  Freshman Shaelynn Schmidt led the squad with nine kills and junior Rylie Bean chipped in six. Sophomore Carly Garone and rookie Molly Brown split setting duties, tallying 20 and 11, respectively. 

Against Widener, Schmidt again led the Bombers with 11 kills. Classmate Siobhan Sorensen posted five. Garone set for 13 assists and Brown seven. Idziur dug out 10 times and rookie Breanne Tuohy put up three blocks.


NAZARETH v RIT | Geneseo
Nazareth (5-1) opened the Golden Flyer Invitational with a pair of non-conference victories on Friday. Nazareth defeated RIT in four sets by the scores of 28-26, 25-17, 20-25, 25-22 in its first match, then the Golden Flyers knocked off Geneseo in three sets by the scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-22.

In Nazareth's match against RIT, Junior Chelsea Beecher amassed a team-high 11 kills, 15 digs, and five service aces to lead the Golden Flyers to victory. Classmates Maria AlloccoOlivia Harrigan, and Kassandra Buseck added nine kills, eight kills, and six kills, respectively. Madi Wickens finished with a team-high 30 assists to direct Nazareth's attack.

Against Geneseo, Allocco tallied a team-high 9 kills and Buseck had 10 kills. Wickens finished with 16 assists as Nazareth's primary setter while freshman Maureen Thayer recorded 11 assists and a team-high 12 digs. Beecher was a force behind the serving line as she amassed five additional aces against the Knights.


ST. JOHN FISHER v Hamilton | New Paltz
The St. John Fisher College volleyball team split a pair of games at the University of Rochester Invitational Friday. The Cardinals dispatched of Hamilton College 25-18, 25-21, 26-24, 25-23, 16-14 before falling to SUNY New Paltz 25-13, 25-21, 25-16.

In the opening game against Hamilton College, the Cardinals got off to a strong start, taking the first set 25-18, but Hamilton regained its composure and claimed the next two sets, to hold a 2-1 advantage.  The Continentals looked to seal the match in the fourth set, but Fisher stormed back from a five point hole to even the score at 23-23. The Cardinals would force a fifth and deciding set after Lauren Rojker came up big block at the net, resulting in the set's final points.

In the final set, both teams jockeyed for the lead, exchanging point after point.  Hamilton held a 14-12 lead, but as it had the entire match, Fisher came from behind, scoring four consecutive points to put the match away.

Rachel Kline and Megan Miller were a force to be reckoned with as the two combined for 31 of Fisher's 48 kills against Hamilton.  Erica Stickler had 14 assists, while Ali Mann Chipped in 12 of her own.

In the nightcap, the Cardinals battled, but fell in straight sets to the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz.

Stickler led Fisher with 14 assists, while Jasmine DavisPaige Willson, Kline and Miller each smashed four kills.


STEVENS v Vassar | NYU
The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team ran its winning streak to seven matches with a pair of victories at the Vassar College Invitational Friday evening. Stevens swept Vassar (28-26, 25-20, 26-24) in the first match of the day and then toppled New York University (22-25, 27-25, 25-15, 26-24) in four sets in the night cap.

Mary Tobin paced Stevens with 11 kills and registered 13 digs in the opener. Samantha Gates assisted on 34 kills to go along with 11 digs and four kills with a .800 hitting percentage, while Mary Caulson contributed 12 digs, nine kills and two aces. Annemarie Thomas added seven kills for the Ducks.

Freshman Christina Sciarra put together a nine-kill effort, while junior Kirsten Salmins picked up 20 digs.

Stevens handed NYU its first loss of the season as five players recorded double-digits digs en route to a total of 85 for the team and three others posted 12-plus kills to make up a majority of the 57 in the match.

Caulson and Sciarra posted match-highs with 15 kills apiece, while Tobin tallied 12 more. Caulson hit at a .433 clip and added 17 digs, and Tobin posted 20 digs.

Gates dished out her first 40-plus assists effort with 46 to go along with 13 digs. Salmins eclipsed the 20-dig mark again with 21 to lead all players. Thomas put down seven kills in 16 swings for a .375 hitting percentage and Hall added five total blocks, four kills and two aces. Sophomore Catie Shelton chipped in 11 digs.
