Stevens and Nazareth Earn Conference Wins

Stevens 8, Utica 0 (Box Score)
The Stevens Institute of Technology (0-2) women's tennis team swept Empire 8 Athletic Conference rival Utica College (0-3), 8-0, in a rain-shortened match on Saturday morning.

Stevens swept the doubles matches in quick succession.  Juniors Danielle Stewart and Elena Cocineva-Lenge swept second doubles, 8-0, and were followed by freshman Lily Bruenjes and sophomore Arden Servidio, who won 8-1 at third doubles, and junior Jessica Bourque and senior Lisa Tessitore, who took first doubles, 8-3.

Bourque and Stewart quickly swept their matches at first and third singles, respectively, and were soon followed by Tessitore at second singles (6-0, 6-1) and freshman Jillian Morneau at sixth singles (6-2, 6-0).  Servidio picked up the final point at fifth singles, 6-3, 6-1, while Cocineva-Lenge was leading, 6-0, 1-0 at fourth singles before rain stopped the match.


Nazareth 8, Hartwick 1 (Box Score)
Visiting Nazareth won its first women's tennis match of the season Saturday as the Golden Flyers defeated Hartwick in an Empire 8 Conference match, 8-1. 

Seniors Alison Tepas and Krista Pagan each won straight-set singles matches as did freshman Jean McCarthy, sophomore Ami Petosa and junior Adrienne Sharza.

The Golden Flyers also took all three doubles contests. Tepas and freshman Sara Kashtan won 8-3 in first doubles and Pagan and junior Elizabeth Crane were winners at #2. McCarthy and Petosa teamed up for another point at #3.

The lone victory for the Hawks was in second singles. Nicole Schepisi moved to 2-0 in singles play as she defeated Kashtan 6-3, 6-1.


Penn State-Behrend 8, Houghton 1 (Box Score)
The Houghton women's tennis team was defeated by Penn State Behrend in all six singles matchups and all but one of the doubles resulting in a 8-1 loss to the Lions in non-conference action on Saturday at Houghton.
 
Lisa Jones and Jennifer Mechler earned the only victory for Houghton at third doubles (8-2).
