STEVENS v MIT | Cortland
The Stevens Institute of Technology women's volleyball team capped off a perfect weekend at the Vassar Invitational with victories over Massachusetts Institute of Technology and nationally ranked No. 24 SUNY Cortland. Stevens was the lone team to tally a 4-0 mark in the tournament and upped its overall record to 9-0 on the season.

Stevens' 9-0 streak to begin this season is the best start a Ducks team has had since the 2004 team ran off eight straight victories during that campaign.

The Ducks dropped the first two sets against MIT, 23-25, 23-25, but responded to take the final three games, 25-20, 25-18, 15-11, and claim the morning match. Three Ducks tallied over 10 kills and 10 digs apiece in the victory, while the team as a whole posted 73 digs, 11 service aces and seven total blocks.

Freshman Christian Sciarra led Stevens offensively with 17 kills en route to an all-tournament nod. Sciarra hit .343 in the match to go along with three block assists. Classmate Mary Tobin was close behind with 16 kills and a .314 hitting clip. Tobin also registered 16 digs for her third double-double of the tournament.

In the sweep over No. 24 Cortland, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21, Tobin was the lone player to earn double-digit kills with 10 for the eighth time this season. She also tallied nine digs. Gates assisted on 37 kills for a match-high to go along with five digs and two assists.

Caulson narrowly missed double-digits in kills with nine and picked up 12 digs. She also added three blocks to her credit, while Sciarra added to her day with eight more kills on 18 swings.

NAZARETH  v Hilbert | Mount Union
Nazareth's women's volleyball team split Saturday's matches to finish the Golden Flyer Invitational with a 3-1 record. Nazareth won its third match of the tournament early Saturday afternoon as the Golden Flyers defeated Hilbert in four sets by the scores of 25-15, 18-25, 25-11, 25-12. Nazareth fell to 11th-ranked Mt. Union in Saturday's title game in three sets. The scores were 25-19, 25-18, 25-15.

Juniors Maria Allocco and Chelsea Beecher were named to the all-tournament team for Nazareth.

In the Golden Flyers' victory against Hilbert, Allocco, sophomore Jennifer Hicks, and freshman Cady Messmer each had six kills to lead Nazareth's attack. Messmer finished with seven service aces, including three in the third set, to help the Golden Flyers to a 19-4 advantage in the category. Freshman Madi Wickens finished with a team-high 15 assists while Thayer recorded nine assists.

Defensively, Thayer and junior Katherine Race each tallied a team-high 10 digs to stymie the Hawks' attack. Beecher also had nine digs. 

Against Mt. Union, Messmer finished with a team-high seven kills while Beecher and Buseck added five kills apiece. Wickens tallied 16 assists while Beecher finished with a team-high nine digs.

ELMIRA v Pitt-Bradford | Brockport
Elmira opened today's matches by taking on Pitt-Bradford, the same team EC edged just three days ago on the road.  This afternoon's match would be much different than their season opener as the Soaring Eagles controlled things from the start en route to a 3-1 win over the Panthers.  EC dominated the three sets they won, allowing no more than 17 points.  Rumsey and Derr led the offensive charge, combining for 29 kills while Miller and Hanes teamed up to make 28 digs. 

EC carried their momentum from the early match into today's final one as they downed SUNY Brockport 3-0.  Rumsey and Derr would again be key players on the attack, combining for 26 kills; Derr was also a key contributor on defense, registering 12 digs. Hanes set-up the EC attack, recording 30 assists, bringing her season total to 108.

ITHACA v Baptist Bible | Union
The Ithaca College volleyball (3-5) team blanked Baptist Bible (3-5), 3-0 (28-26, 25-18, 25-10) before falling to Union (6-2), 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-20), Saturday on day two of the Bomber Invitational. Sophomore Carly Garone was Ithaca's representative on the all-tournament team.

Freshman Shaelynn Schmidt led all players with a match-high 14 kills against Baptist Bible. Sophomore Dylan Gawinski Stern posted 11 kills and junior Abbie Hutchinson  added six kills on seven swings. Garone set for 20 assists and rookie Molly Brown dished out 11.

Gawinski Stern led the contest with five aces. Defensively, freshman Maggie Mutschler dug out 10 times.

Against the Dutchwomen, Duryea posted nine kills and Gawinski Stern seven on Brown's match-high 24 assists. Garone had nine digs.


ST. JOHN FISHER v Oswego | Skidmore 
The St. John Fisher College volleyball team closed out the University of Rochester Invitational losing to both Oswego State and Skidmore College in straight sets. 

Against Oswego State the Cardinals held a late lead in the opening set, but The Lakers scored five of the next six points to edge Fisher 25-22. Oswego State got off to a strong start in the second set, opening up a 22-12 lead, but Fisher would rally, registering eight of the next ten points including four in a row, but it would not be enough as Oswego State held on to take the set 25-20.

Megan Miller notched ten kills, one assist and seven digs, while Ali Mann recorded two kills and 13 assists. Andrea Gillespie had eight digs to go along with two assists and Erica Stickler tallied ten assists.

In the finale, Rachael Kline blasted 12 kills, but the Cardinals couldn't get much going as they fell in straight sets to Skidmore College.

Mann tallied a career-high 21 assists, while Dominique DiPietro came up with a game-high 19 digs.  


HARTWICK v Fredonia | Hilbert
Hartwick fought back from a two games to one deficit to Hilbert in its final match of the Nazareth College Golden Flyer Invitational to claim its first win of the season, 3-2. Hartwick (1-7) rallied for a 25-20 triumph in game number four and outlasted Hilbert 15-9 in game five for the victory.

The Hawks grabbed an early lead after besting Hilbert 25-17 in the first game of the match. Hilbert came back with two straight games, 25-23 and 25-18, before 'Wick mounted the comeback.

Junior Dana Martin was the lone Hawk to earn double digits in kills. She finished the match with 14. Mary Beth DeCuyke chipped in with eight. Christine Confer  and Taylor Vonasek  each contributed six kills and Ashlynn Mohan added five. Alyssa Zeitler  distributed 28 assists in the match.

In the Hawks' first match of the day, Fredonia State won in three games, 25-17, 25-13, 25-19. Martin had nine kills and hit .304 for the match. Armstrong had seven digs.


ALFRED v Alfred State | Penn State-Behrend
The Alfred University volleyball team lost two matches Saturday in the second day of action at the Keuka College Tournament. Alfred (2-5) lost 3-2 to Alfred State (14-25, 25-20, 16-26, 25-16, 15-10) and 3-0 to Penn State Behrend (25-9, 25-10, 25-14).

In the match with Alfred State, AU was paced by senior Chelsea Hall with 17 kills and 12 digs. Freshman Mary Lou Patnaude  had six kills and eight digs; senior Janelle Gallipeau  has 32 assists; and junior Taylor Kiernan  had 19 digs.

Hall had seven kills and eight digs against Penn State Behrend; freshman Core’ Oppliger had four kills and a block; senior Tara Barone had 10 assists; and Kiernan had six digs.


HOUGHTON v Penn State-Behrend | Keuka
The Houghton College women's volleyball team split today's matches, losing 3-0 to Penn State-Behrend but regaining their momentum to beat Keuka College 3-0.

In the first match against Penn State-Behrend, Alicia Needham  led the way with 8 kills and 12 digs, while hitting .375. Meagan Palm  was supportive offensively with 7 kills. Laurel Wroblicky capitalized defensively with 16 digs. Regardless of these efforts, the Highlanders struggled offensively as a team, resulting in a loss.

The second match was a completely different story.

Jaime Green produced a double-double with 25 assists and 13 digs, Palm finished with 8 kills and 3 blocks, Hattie Burgher  has six kills and 17 digs, and Hannah Compeau  with 6 kills and 18 digs, it is easy to see there was a much better team effort both on offense and defense.

The Highlanders were very strong defensively with 21 digs for Wroblicky and 19 digs for Alyssa Quimby. As a team, the Highlanders earned an impressive 31.66 digs per set, resulting in a 3-0 victory.


UTICA v Wells | SUNYIT
The Utica College volleyball team split a pair of matches versus Wells College and SUNYIT in a tri-match hosted by Wells College on Saturday.  UC defeated Wells 3-2 before falling to cross town rival, SUNYIT 3-0.

Brandi Blaszak and Cassandra Manzer  led the way for UC in the first match.  Blaszak had a team-high 14 kills and five blocks, while Manzer tallied 13 kills and one block.  Madison Bayer also had an impressive showing, registering nine kills, five blocks, and four digs. Setters Lora Allen and Chelsea Lauria chipped in with 14 and 13 assists, respectively. 

In the second match of the day, Laura Homer-Gunther and Blaszak each had six kills, while Briona ENny had a team-best five digs.  However, it was not enough as the SUNYIT Wildcats handed the Pioneers their first loss of the season.
