Regan and Villenueve Win Individual Titles
OSWEGO INVITATIONAL (
Ithaca and St. John Fisher)
RESULTS
The Ithaca College and St. John Fisher cross country teams competed at the Oswego Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7. The Bombers ran to a first-place finish out of 12 teams, while the Cardinals tied for fourth place.
Ithaca graduate student
Jenn Randall placed second out of 162 runners with a 5K finish of 18:47.90. Juniors
Alexa Rick and
Emily Smith followed in third and fourth with finishes of 19:01.90 and 19:14.70.
Fellow juniors
Meghan Cass and
Hannah Wright were next to cross the finish line for the Bombers. Cass ran sixth with a time of 19:18.30 and Wright 11th in 19:30.10.
Fisher freshmen
Anna Phillips and
Abby Weaver led the Cardinals on the day. Phillips finished the 5-K race in 19:50.9 and placed 19 overall, while Weaver was right behind her and finished in 22 place at 19:54.9.
Katlin Shippy and
Sammy Van Gee finished in 27 and 28 place, respectively, with times of 20:08.5 and 20:09.9.
HARRY LANG INVITATIONAL (
Hartwick)
RESULTS
Hartwick began their season on Saturday at the Colgate University Harry Lang Invitational. The Hawks finished fourth in the four-team fields, as Hartwick was only competing against Division I athletes from Syracuse University, Colgate, and the University at Buffalo.
For the women, freshman Victoria Hathaway was the Hawks' top finisher in the 4200-meter run. She placed 16th in 16:59.60, beating out 14 different Division I women's racers in the competition. Junior
Monica Prager was just over 17 seconds behind Hathaway in 22nd
place with a time of 17:17.30. She was faster than nine opposing runners.
STEVEN A. WARDE INVITATIONAL (
Utica)
RESULTS
Sophomore
Ashton Villeneuve, of the Utica College women's cross country team, shattered another school record Saturday as she took first place, 17:55, leading the team to a victory at the Steven A. Warde Invitational at SUNY Cobleskill in the 5k. The Pioneers defended their title at Cobleskill winning heir second consecutive race in as many years. Villeneuve, posted the fourth fastest time at the Cobleskill course as she won her second straight race in as many weeks.
UC placed four runners in the top ten and eight in the top 20. Senior
Katie Day finished second for the Pioneers with a final time of 19:04 averaging a 6:08.3 mile.
Sophomores
Sarah DePalma and
Samantha Bennett placed sixth and seventh just one second apart with times of 19:51 and 19:52 as the pair averaged a 6:23 mile.
Juniors
Julie Bowler and
Savannah Bernardin placed 11th and 12th respectively as Bowler recorded a time of 20:47 followed by Bernardin's clock of 20:51.
RON STONITSCH INVITATIONAL (
Stevens)
RESULTS
The Stevens Institute of Technology women's cross country team came in fourth overall at Vassar College's Ron Stonitsch Invitational on Saturday morning in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. with 87 total points.
Stevens finished the 5K race behind Marywood University (85 points), Vassar College (57) and SUNY New Paltz (47) at the event.
Sophomore
Amy Regan topped all runners that competed with a time of 18:15.19. Regan cruised past the next closest competitor by more than 43 seconds for her first victory of the season.
Senior
Ashley Princiotta crossed the line in 10th overall with a finish of 19:35.77 for Stevens' second-best placement. Freshman
Kathleen Kalbian clocked a time of 19:59.06, sophomore
Kate Moyer finished in 20:32.96 and senior
Kelly Freed posted a 21:07.94 to round out the top runners for Stevens.
