Fisher Collegiate Invitational
The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College men's golf team won its first tournament of the year, shooting a 602 in the Fisher Collegiate Invitational at Stafford Country Club.
The 12
th ranked Cardinals held a five shot lead going into the tournament's final day and finished with an 11-stroke lead over second place finisher, Alleghany College.
Thad Wier was the top finisher and the only player to shoot under par in the tournament (-1) after a second round 72, including a birdie on the 36
th and final hole to cap the win.
Chris Blyth turned in a 148 (73-75), while
Corey Haas finished with a 153 (76-77).
Devin Solar shot a 154 ((79-75) and
Hogan Cuny also turned in a 154 (78-76).
The Elmira College men's golf team improved 17 strokes on day two of the Invitational, posting a 319 for a 647 overall 8th place finish. Junior
Evan Clarke led the Soaring Eagles with a 70 on day two for a 144 score on 36 holes. Just missing medalist honors by one stroke.
Kyle Hyde,
Bryce Hanson and
Ryan Siffermann all carded a 169 on both days. Hyde penciled in a low of 84 on day one, while Hanson and Sifferman both scored a low of 80 on day two of the tournament.
Troy Gordon '15 finished one stroke behind with a 170 by posting an 85 on both days of the tournament.
Freshman
Frank Szucs shot a 76 to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men's golf team to a second round total of 323. Junior
Cameron Hill carded an 81 and senior
Charlie Johnston turned in an 82, while senior
Richie Szeliga and junior
Justin Niemeier each shot 85.
St. Lawrence Invitational
The Utica College men's golf team fired a 336, shaving eight strokes of its day one scorecard, totaling a 680 over 36-holes at the St. Lawrence University Invitational. Sophomores
Charles Coppola and
Ryan Stalker guided the Pioneers over the weekend as Coppola carded a two-day total of 163 while Stalker totaled a 164.
Junior captain
Christian Leogrande finished third for UC in the three spot with a two-round total of 169 as he carded scores of 86 and 83.
