Three Road Wins; One Victory at Home
Friday night featured four conference games which resulted in three victories for the road teams and one home court win. Elmira and Hartwick remain unbeaten in conference play, while Ithaca and Stevens pick up its second league win.
Hartwick 71, St. John FIsher 68 (

Hartwick, after trailing by 12 points in the first half, outscored host St. John Fisher 47-35 in the second half and hung on in the late stages to earn a gritty 71-68 victory over the Cardinals Friday night at Bobby Wanzer Court in Pittsford.
With the victory, Hartwick stays perfect in the Empire 8 at 3-0 and improves to 9-3 overall. 'Wick's bench was the story for the Hawks tonight as it outscored Fisher's 22-5.

Maria Foglia registered a game-high 23 points. She made 12-of-13 (92.3%) from the line, including some clutch free throws in the waning stages to help seal the win.

Stevens 71, Nazareth 53 (

The Stevens Institute of Technology women's basketball team improved to 8-3 on the season and 2-1 in the Empire 8 Conference with a 71-53 road victory at Nazareth College on Friday night in Kidera Gymnasium.
Stevens used an early second half scoring spree to pull away from Nazareth (5-7, 1-2) after a 37-37 tie at halftime to come away with the win. The Ducks outscored Nazareth, 34-16, in the second half and held the Golden Flyers to just 22.2-percent shooting in the final 20 minutes.
Stevens shot 46.9-percent in the game (30-for-64) and 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Nazareth went 20-for-64 from the field (31.3%) but made 10 three-pointers to make up the difference. The Ducks dominated the glass, 52-29.

Elmira 66, Utica 58 (

The Elmira College women's basketball team (8-2, 3-0 E8) used a 14-2 run midway through the second half to seal their seventh win in a row and third consecutive Empire 8 Conference win, defeating Utica College (4-7, 0-3 E8) 66-58 on the road.
With the game tied 39-39 with 11:10 on the clock, the Soaring Eagles went on an 8-2 run that would put the game in EC's control.
Utica would cut the game to a single point twice, at 51-50 and again at 53-52, but the Soaring Eagles would not relinquish the lead. EC held the Pioneers scoreless for almost two minutes, from the 3:50 mark to the 1:59 mark, as the women opened up a 59-52 edge. Utica tried to get back into the game but the Purple and Gold would hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the 66-58 victory.
EC was stout defensively as the women held the Pioneers to 21.1 percent shooting from beyond the arc and forced 27 Utica turnovers, including 13 steals, which led to 28 Elmira points.

Ithaca 91, Alfred 48 (

The Ithaca College women's basketball team (9-4, 2-1 Empire 8) scored a season-high 91 points to defeat visiting Alfred (5-5, 0-2 Empire 8), 91-48, Friday night at Ben Light Gymnasium.
Alfred held Ithaca to a two-possession lead throughout the first quarter of action. It was an
Ally Mnich layup at 10:24 that tipped off a 16-2 run that secured the Bombers a double-digit advantage the rest of the way. The Saxons were held to just four points during the last 10 minutes of the first half. Ithaca led 46-23 at intermission and steadily pulled ahead throughout the second half. It's the first the Bombers have scored more than 80 points since a 92-55 victory against Stevens on Jan. 25, 2013.
