Hawks and Soaring Eagles Pull Off a Win

The Hartwick men's basketball team took a 12 point lead late in the second half but had to hold off a Stevens' comeback as the Hawks came out with a 74-68 win over the Ducks on Tuesday night at Canavan Arena. The win gives Hartwick a record of 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the Empire 8 while Stevens is now 8-5 and 3-2 in the E8.
The Hawks were up 62-50 with 5:33 left to play and were poised to cruise to the win. The Ducks, however, would not go down quietly as they mounted a furious comeback to trail 71-68 with 26 seconds left. Hartwick converted three free throws in the waning moments to stave off the threat and come away with the win.
Hartwick won despite making 23-of-59 (39%) of its field goals to tie a season-low. The Ducks put up 71 shots but only made 26 of them for a 36.6% conversion rate. The Hawks hit 9-of-27 (33.3%) three-pointers compared to 8-of-28 (28.6%) for Stevens.
Stevens led in the paint, 36-24. The Hawks controlled the glass 47-40 which led to a 19-8 advantage in second chance points.

The Elmira College men's basketball team (5-7, 1-3 E8) scored 45 points in the first half to make way for a 76-61 victory over Houghton College (3-10).

Elmira lead 45-31 going into the locker rooms but the Highlanders cut EC's lead down to seven points five different times in the second period, the last was with just 5:36 left in the game. The Soaring Eagles would go on to record a 9-2 run that was sparked by a
Derrick Vogel '14 jump shot. Houghton battled back with a 4-0 and trailed by 11 with 54 seconds left, but ran out of time as Elmira would claim their second win in three games.

Scranton 67, Ithaca 51 (

The Ithaca College men's basketball team (4-10) lost a non-conference road contest to Scranton (11-3) Tuesday night, falling to the Royals by a score of 67-51 at the Long Center.

Frank Mitchell paced the Bombers with 20 points and 11 rebounds to secure his sixth double-double of the season. Classmate
Tom Sweeney chipped in 14 points, also contributing six rebounds and a block. Senior
Chris Jordan led Ithaca with five assists.
Ithaca shot 34 percent from the floor, connecting on 18-of-53 shot attempts, including a mark of 3-for-14 from beyond the arc. The Bombers shot 70.6 percent from the free throw line, while Scranton connected on 19-of-24 shots from the charity stripe. The Royals hit 22-of-56 shots, shooting 39.3 percent from the floor.
