The Hartwick men's basketball teams combined for a total of 255 points to set a new Hartwick record for combined points in a game and it was the Hawks who outlasted the Saxons 131-124 at Lambros Arena on Friday night. The contest pitted to two top scoring teams in the Empire 8.
The win gives the Hawks an overall record of 9-6 and 5-1 in the E8. Alfred drops to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in the E8.
Hartwick led for all but two minutes of the first half. The Saxons scored the game's first two baskets to lead 4-0 at 19:18. A 15-2 'Wick run would give the Hawks a 15-6 advantage at 14:19.
Alfred would claw its way back and cut into the Hartwick lead as it trailed 15-12 following a layup from Jeremy Johnson. A 20-8 'Wick run, however, would give the Hawks its biggest lead of contest, 35-20, at 7:34.
Hartwick led by as much as 14 points, 46-32, with four minutes remaining in the half but the Saxon again would mount a substantial run. AU cut the Hawks' lead to four points with 34 second remaining in the frame as the Hawks went into the locker room with a 53-59 lead at halftime.

St. John Fisher 79, Ithaca 56 (

The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team rolled to a 79-56 win over visiting Ithaca College on Friday in an Empire 8 Conference matchup.
With the win, Fisher improves to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the Empire 8, while Ithaca drops to 0-5, 4-11.
Fisher never trailed in the game. The Cardinals led 7-6 with 14:55 left in the first half, but used a 12-0 run over the next five minutes to pull away. Ithaca cut the Fisher lead to seven at 29-22 with 3:05 left in the opening period, but the Cardinals ended the stanza with a 10-4 spurt to take a 39-26 advantage at the break.
Ithaca pulled to within 10 points at 51-41 with 12:25 remaining, but the Cardinals went on a 13-1 run, including two 3-pointers from
Adam Ambielli, to take a 64-42 lead with just over eight minutes to play.

Nazareth 93, Utica 84 (

The Pioneers' journey to Nazareth College resulted in a 93-84 loss to the fiesty Golden Flyers. Senior Jack Giles led the Golden Flyers with 19 total points and Senior Brad Ford grabbed 17 total boards.
Nazareth took an early lead over Utica and held on to a 10 point lead for the first 10 minutes. Jack Giles and Scott Hayford proved to be solid contributors, combining for 5, 3-point field goals in the first half. Naz held the lead the entire first half with a narrow margin of 43-42.
Naz came out strong to start the second half, but were unable to shake the Pioneers. After a few lead changes in the second half Nazareth was able to control the game. Nazareth lead by 6 points with two minutes to go and the veteran leaders were able to close the game with a strong 93-84 victory. Nazareth is currently 3-2 in the E8 conference with a 9-5 overall record.

Stevens 91, Houghton 52 (

The Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team snapped a two-game skid with a 91-52 win over Houghton College at the Canavan Arena Friday night.
With the win, Stevens improves to 9-5 overall, while the Highlanders fall to 3-11.
The Ducks dominated from the opening tip and took a 50-24 lead into the intermission, shooting 53.1 percent from the field and 13-for-16 from the line. The Ducks assisted on 12 of their first 17 made baskets and recorded nine first-half thefts.
Stevens seemed to only get hotter at halftime, draining four three-pointers in the first 3:35 of second half – three from Evan Klimchak. A three-ball from sophomore guard
Kevin Zychowski with 13:53 left gave the Ducks a 72-31 lead, and the Highlanders could not get closer than 37 the rest of the way.
Stevens went 32-for-58 from the field (55.2 percent), 11-for-21 from deep (52.4 percent) and 16-for-20 at the line (80 percent). The Ducks had 24 assists and 18 turnovers, tallying 13 steals as a team. They also held a 41-27 margin on the glass.

St. Lawrence 67, Elmira 59 (

The Elmira College men's basketball team (5-8) dropped a heartbreaker at home tonight to the Saints of St. Lawrence University (5-7), 67-59. Third-year talent
Neil Randolph '15 led the Soaring Eagles with 21 points and seven rebounds.
The first eight minutes of tonight's game was controlled by the Soaring Eagles as Elmira opened the game with a monster 17-4 run.
St. Lawrence would settle-in and piece together a crucial run of their own, outscoring Elmira 16-3 over a seven minute span to tie the game at 20-all at the 5:00 minute mark. From there, both teams would score 13 points apiece to end the half, bringing the score to 33-33 at the break.
Coming out of the break, Elmira would be held to a pair of three-point baskets over a six and half minute stretch as St. Lawrence took their largest lead of the game, 50-39 at the 13:28 mark. The Saints' lead would hover around nine points for the majority of the half until Elmira's Randolph knocked down a jumper at the 1:07 mark and followed it up with a made basket from beyond the arc, cutting St. Lawrence's lead to 63-59 with 29 seconds left in the game. Unfortunately for Elmira, St. Lawrence would knock down four free throw attempts to seal the game at 67-59.
