Stevens 102, Alfred 85 (

Five players scored in double figures as the Stevens Institute of Technology men's basketball team picked up a 102-85 conference win over Alfred University Saturday afternoon at the Canavan Arena.
Much like Friday night against Houghton, Stevens came out strong, jumping out to 9-0 edge and eventually building a 16-point halftime lead (47-31).
Stevens extended the margin to 21 points following a layup from junior forward
Kenny Gan with 15:26 on the clock, and the lead hovered around 20 points for the next five-plus minute before Alfred made a run to get back in the game.
With Stevens on top 75-55 at 9:42, the Saxons outscored the Ducks 17-3 over a span of just 2:49 to get within six.
After two free throws from Alfred's Mike Snyder made it 78-72, the Ducks were able to respond, getting a clutch basket from senior guard
Andrew Meszaros and ended up running off eight-straight points to take an 86-72 margin with 5:44 on the clock.
From that point, Alfred could only get within 11 points as the Ducks were able to bring home a comfortable victory despite the Saxons' best efforts.

St. John Fisher 85, Utica 65 (

For the seventh time in the last eight games, the St. John Fisher College men's basketball program came away with a win, as the Cardinals shot 58% from the floor and defeated visiting Utica College 83-65 on Saturday at Fisher's Bobby Wanzer Court.
Utica jumped out to a 25-20 lead midway through the first half, but Fisher responded with a 16-2 run over the next five minutes and led by nine at 41-32 at the half.
Fisher pushed its lead to 15 early on in the second half, but the Pioneers hung tough and cut the lead down to seven at 64-57 with just over five minutes left. The Cardinals, however, didn't squander the advantage and went on a 16-4 run over the next three minutes, capitalizing at the charity stripe.

Nazareth 77, Ithaca 58 (

All five Nazareth starters scored in double figures Saturday for the second game in a row as the host Golden Flyers defeated Ithaca in an Empire 8 Conference men's basketball game, 77-58, at the Kidera Gymnasium.
The game was close throughout the first half with Nazareth claiming a 28-27 advantage following a basket by Brad Ford with 1:09 left. A basket by Ithaca's Tom Sweeney to open the second half gave the Bombers their last lead of the game at 29-28. Giles then heated up for Nazareth by hitting three-point baskets on three of Nazareth's next four possessions to boost the Golden Flyers to a 39-31 advantage with 16:35 left.
Nazareth's lead continued to grow with Giles hitting his fourth three-pointer of the half with 12:12 to go to push the lead to double digits for the first time at 52-40. Giles shot 6-for-9 from the floor in the game, including 4-for-5 from three-point range.

Hartwick 96, Houghton 82 (

Jared Suderley dropped a season-high 36 points to lead the Hartwick men's basketball as the Hawks led from start to finsh as they defeated visiting Houghton 96-82 on Saturday afternoon at Lambros Arena. Winners of three straight games, Hartwick is now 10-6 overall while Houghton falls to 3-12.
The Hawks were in control from the beginning as they raced out to a 13-0 lead at 16:47 of the first half. The Highlanders did not register their first basket of the game until the 15:03 mark when Andrew Makori was good on a jumper. The 'Wick lead grew to as much as 27 points, 33-6, at 10:15.
Hartwick led 40-20 with 5:21 left to play in the first half. Houghton started to chip away at the 'Wick lead as a 19-13 run to close out the period would reduce the Hawks' advantage to just 14 points, 53-39, at halftime. The Highlanders were a hot 8-of-12 from beyond the three-point arc to fuel the comeback bid.
The Highlanders stayed with the Hawks in the second half as they closed to within 11 points, 59-48, at 17:04. It would be as close as Houghton would get as Hartwick kept its distance from the visitors throughout the half. After a hot shooting first half, Houghton went cold in three pointers as it shot 1-of-9 in the second period.
