Men's Swimming & Diving Teams Make a Splash
ITHACA
The Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team won a dual meet with Rochester Saturday afternoon, dropping the Yellowjackets by a 211-83 margin at the Speegle-Wilbraham Aquatic Center. The Bombers dominated throughout the afternoon, taking first in 15-of-16 events.
Ithaca opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of
Connor White,
Lucas Zelehowsky,
Taylor Van Cott and
Zack Kundel earned the victory, finishing in a time of 1:36.71.The Bombers also won the second relay event of the afternoon, as the team of
Peter Knight,
John Carr, Kundel and
Chris Cadwell finished first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:14.09.
Individually, White earned another top finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.58. To go along with his contribution in the two relay victories, Kundel earned a win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.60. Van Cott took first with a time of 2:02.04 in the 200-yard backstroke, while Knight earned the top spot with a time of 47.77 in the 100-yard freestyle.
L. Zelehowsky added two more individual first place finishes throughout the rest of the meet. He paced the field of six in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:59.08, and took first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.50.
Adam Zelehowsky also had a dominate performance, earning two individual first place finishes. A. Zelehowsky started with a top finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.97, before taking first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:54.86.
James Bowe earned another victory for Ithaca in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in a time of 2:14.62.
Matt Morrison helped Ithaca sweep the diving events, taking first in the 1-meter (257.18) and 3-meter dives. Morrison set a season high with a winning score of 316.65 in the 3-meter dive.
UTICA
The Utica College men's swim team lost to Clarkson University Saturday, 166-105 at the Utica College Pool. Senior's
Josh Mannarino and Colin Hart were honored prior to the competition for all of their hard work and efforts over the years as they competed in their final home contest off their collegiate campaigns. Hart grabbed 11 points for UC while Mannarino collected two individual points and aided two relay teams to another three points.
Sophomore standout
Raphael Warnon led the Pioneers with 18 points on the day winning both the 100 & 200-yard backstroke events. Warnon clocked final times of 57.30 in the 100 and 2:04.44 in the 200.
Freshman
Tyler Good had a solid outing as he grabbed 13 points with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle and a second place finish in the 1000-yard with times of 5:24.68 and 11:13.40.
Junior
Anthony Farber took third place in both the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke totaling six team points for UC in the loss.
HARTWICK v ALFRED
The Hartwick men's swimming and diving teams defeated Alfred on Saturday afternoon at Moyer Pool 161-84.
There were seven different winners for Hartwick on the day.
Ben Detar had three first place finishes in the 200 fly (1:57.12), the 100 fly (53.40), and the 400 IM (4:24.27) to lead the Hawks.
Brad Ranson picked up wins in the 50 free (21.88) and the 100 free (48.18).
Matt Plunkett tallied victories in the 100 back (54.69) and the 200 back (1:57.69).
Other individual winners included
Luke Grunewald in the 1000 free (9:59.69),
Brendan Day in the 200 breast (2:21.82),
Chris Farrell in the 500 free (4:58.62), and
Ryan Cichielo in the 100 breast (1:02.67). Cichielo joined Plunkett, Detar, and Ranson in the 200 medley relay as the team swam to a winning time of 1:38.69.
In the diving portion,
Aaron Sodentook both diving events. Soden totaled 167.65 points in the one meter competition and 169.95 points in the three meter competition to claim wins.
Alfred junior Dave Coombes won the 200 freestyle (1:46.98) and also took second in the 100 free (48.48 seconds). Zac Toth won the 100 butterfly (53.84) and was second in both the 200 fly (2:01.86) and 200 backstroke (2:01.75).
Junior
David Luke, Toth, Coombes and senior Pete Sowinski won the 200 free relay (1:26.99). Sowinski was second in the 50 free (22.23) and was third in the 200 free (1:51.32) and 100 free (48.96). Luke was third in the 50 free (22.24).
STEVENS
The No. 4 Johns Hopkins University men's swimming team defeated seventh-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology, 159-95, Saturday in Baltimore.
The 200-yard medley relay was the first event of the day, and the team of sophomore

Joshua Lefeber, junior
John Rees and senior
Tyler Hessler placed third with a time of 1:37.04.
Freshman
Mark Lippert earned a fourth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:04.76), with freshman
Tomasz Wolinski pocketing a third thanks to a 1:45.33 in the 200-yard freestyle.
Sun and senior
Shawn Hanak went two-three in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 52.26 and 53.23, while Lefeber was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.47). Senior
Joe Huyett and Hessler took second and third place with times of 21.95 and 22.00 in the 50-yard freestyle, and Wolinski paced the Ducks with a third in the 100-yard freestyle thanks to a 47.21.
Sun and senior
Nick Noga were second and fourth in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking finishes of 1:56.35 and 2:00.94, while sophomore
Dane Pilcher was third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.02).
Senior
Conor Arcuri was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:51.15, with Rees turning in the second-best time in the 100-yard butterfly. Sun had the second-best time in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.72), with the team of Wolinski, Lefeber, Noga and Hanak doing the same in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:11.64).
