Men's Track and Field Returns to Full Action
Track and field teams were in action at the RIT Invitational, SLU Invitational, the Ramapo College Indoor Select and the Wesleyan University Invitational on Saturday.
RIT INVITATIONAL
Nazareth sophomore Jake Lafaver was first in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:09.51.
The Golden Flyers' relay team, consisting of Jake and Zach Lafaver, Matt Battaglia, and frehsman
Jenoy Merchant were fourth in the 100-meter relay as they finished with a time of 3:38.89.
Alfred senior
Andre McCloud was second in the 60-meter dash in 7.12 seconds. His time of 7.02 seconds in preliminaries met ECAC qualifying standards and also broke the school record (formerly 7.06 seconds). Sophomore
Gregory Matos, fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.82 seconds).
St. John Fisher's
Trevor Wilkes won the 400 with a time of :52.29, less than a second shy of the Fisher record, while junior
Evan Magnussen shattered the Fisher record by over 20 seconds, placing fifth overall in the 5,000 with a time of 16:06.
In the triple jump, sophomore
Brandon Fuentes set a new Fisher record and qualified for NYSCTC, leaping 13.44 meter, good for fourth overall. Freshman
Malcolm Fowler was eight in the event as well. Fuentes was also 12th in the long jump at 6.27 meters.
Sophomore
Kyle Koehler, competing for only the second time this season, finished second in the shot put at 13.94 meters.
INDOOR SELECT
Ithaca junior
Rashaad Barrett placed third in the 60-meter dash in 7.08. Sophomore
De'Marquis Graves finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.53 meters.
Junior
Dennis Ryan ran .02 seconds shy of the ECAC standard in the 800 run. He was the runner-up in the event with a time of 1:58.02.
Senior
Jarrod Monacelli took third in the pole vault with a clear of 4.25 meters.
Stevens junior
Robert Pinto took first overall in the high jump with a school-record-tying mark of 2.03 meters (6 feet, 8 inches). Pinto's effort currently stands as the third highest jump in NCAA Division III.
The distance medley relay team of senior
Louis Stengel, sophomores
Shane Chiaravalle and
Troy Kanaszka, and junior
Andrew Parlette qualified for ECAC's with a second place showing. The foursome posted a time of 10:32.27 in the event.
Senior
Michael Cahill also qualified for ECAC's in the 3,000-meter run with the second fastest time of his career. Cahill finished sixth overall in a time of 8:48.75.
WESLEYAN INVITATIONAL
At the Wesleyan University Invitational in Middletown, Conn., Stevens student-athletes shined in the 1,000-meter run, mile run, shot put and weight throw events.
The Ducks claimed the top four positions in the mile and were led by freshman
Tom Flannery. Flannery took top honors with a time of 4:40.92 and was followed by sophomore
Zach McKeehan at 4:49.85. Freshman
Chris Banko placed third in a time of 4:51.49 and junior
Nicholas Chapel came in fourth with a performance of 4:55.82.
In the 1K, freshman
Michael John finished as the runner-up in 2:41.00 and Flannery trailed behind by just .35 seconds. Junior
Matthew Bombard crossed the line in fifth with a time of 2:46.21.
Three Ducks finished in the top four in the weight throw and were paced by senior
Cory Zegel who took second with a toss of 12.71 meters (41' 8.75"). Classmate
Joel Oquendo claimed third with a mark of 12.58 meters (41' 3.25") and freshman
Daniel Jacome finished fourth with a throw of 12.41 meters (40' 8.75"). Freshman
Guido Porcelli came in seventh with a distance of 11.29 meters (37' 0.5").
Jacome and Oquendo also competed in the shot put and recorded second and fourth place showings, respectively. Jacome measured out 13.40 meters (43' 11.75"), while Oquendo was fourth at 11.55 meters (37' 10.75). Porcelli tied Oquendo for fourth in the event as well.
Sophomore
Zach Andrews ran a time of 1:27.10 in the 600-meter race which was good for second overall. Junior
Brian Lawrey Jr. completed the race in fifth with a time of 1:29.98 and freshman
Bradford Smith ran a time of 1:31.99 to place sixth.
Freshman
Brian Fratto ran a second place time of 24.52 seconds in the 200-meter dash, while sophomore
Tom Halloran posted a time of 24:84 seconds to finish fifth.
SLU INVITE
Freshman Jonathon Jackson tallied six points and a fourth place finish in his first competition for UC with a clock of 52.73 in the 400-meter dash
Hurdlers Shane Ruffing and Andrew Hoover combined for 10 points in the 60-meter hurdles as they locked up third and fourth place with times of 8.77 and 8.95.
In the field events, junior Kyle Sikes and freshman Rayshawn Scott placed fourth in their respective events to guide the men. Sikes took fourth in the pole vault soaring 4.25 meters and collecting four points while Scott also grabbed four points in the high jump with a leap of 1.83, just one meter shy of the ECAC mark. Freshman thrower Tome McGetrick hurled the shot put 13.92 meters for a fifth place finish.
