Nazareth, Ithaca and Hartwick Dominiate in the Water
NAZARETH v UTICA
Host Nazareth dominated Utica in a men's swimming and diving dual meet Saturday. The Golden Flyers won all 16 events on their way to a 162-81 victory over the Pioneers. The Golden Flyers also won the women's meet in similar fashion, 181-56.
In the men's meet, sophomore
Dan Burke was part of four winning events. He broke the pool and school records in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:09.42. He also won the 100-meter backstroke in 1:00.22. Burke spearheaded Nazareth's 200-meter medley relay that broke the school record with a time of 1:51.51. Seniors
Tim Rappold and
Bryan Geary also swam along with freshman
Matt Leverich. Burke, Geary and Leverich also swam on the winning 200-meter free relay (1:43.13) along with sophomore
Sean Doyle.
Rappold also broke a school record in the 100-meter breaststroke with a winning time of 1:08.87. He finished first in the 200 breaststroke (2:32.55), too. Sophomore
Jeff Green won both diving events, setting a school record in the 1-meter event with a score of 280.95. That score also qualified him for the NCAA Regional event March 1 at RIT. He also won the 3-meter event with a score 250.80.
Other winners were Leverich in the 800 freestyle (9:21.56) and the 400 freestyle (4:22.15); Doyle in the 100 freestyle (:57.89) and the 200 freestyle (2:05.01); senior
Justin Sawran in the 200 butterfly (2:29.20) and 200 IM (2:27.80); Geary in the 100 butterfly (1:03.62) and sophomore
Robert Ramos in the 50 freestyle (:26.82).
Utica senior
Collin Hart posted two victories to lead the UC men. Hart won the 1-meter dive with a score of 103.30 and the 100-opebn fly with a clock of 1:08.77. Senior Joshua Mannarino took first in the 200-yard medley while sophomore
Raphael Warnon tallied two second place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard free with times of 2:23.08 and 2:14.19.
ITHACA v ALFRED
The Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team defeated Alfred Saturday, taking down the Saxons by a score of 207-80. The Bombers finished first in 12-of-16 events.
Matt Morrison swept the diving events, highlighted by scores of 345.35 in the 1-meter dive and 331.65 in the 3-meter dive. His scores marked career highs and also set pool and school records. Morrison broke his own program mark in the 1-meter, while his performance in the 3-meter broke Derek Rand's score of 314.60 set in 2012.

Taylor Van Cott and
Zack Kundel started the meet off with the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay, taking first with a time of 1:37.12. The Bombers also took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as
John Carr,
Logan Metzger,
Peter Knight and Kundel finished in a time of 1:26.11.
Kundel added to his relay wins with an individual first place finish, winning the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 21.83. While collected an individual victory for the Bombers in the 100-yard backstroke, taking first with a time of 54.39.
Adam Zelehowsky won two individual events for Ithaca, taking first in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:25.07) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.32).
Clement Towner took the top spot with a time of 1:46.97 in the 200-yard freestyle, while
James Bowe earned a win in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:03.60.
Cheffy Thomas pulled in another win for the Bombers, taking first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:25.40.
Addison Hebert capped the top individual finishes, taking first in the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:23.42.
Alfred juniors Zac Toth,
Dave Coombes, and Joe Rogers were individual winners for the Saxons (3-4) in individual events. Toth won the 100 butterfly (53.02) and 200 butterfly (2:00.60) and also took second in the 200 backstroke (2:03.49). Coombes won the 100 freestyle (48.53) and also took second in the 200 free (1:47.038 seconds) and Rogers took the 500 freestyle (5:04.25).
HARTWICK v ST. LAWRENCE
The Hartwick men's swimming and diving team competed in the final home meet of the season on Saturday afternoon at Moyer Pool. The Hawks won 130-82 over St. Lawrence.
For the men, a pair of swimmers took first place to lead the Hawks.
Luke Grunewald won by a wide margin in the 1650 free (16:31.33) and in the process set a new pool record. He also claimed victory in the 500 free (4:47.86) and missed the pool record by two seconds.
Matt Plunkett was a winner in the 200 free (1:49.72) and the 100 back (55.38).
Zac Whitenack won his first collegiate event as he came in first in the 50 free (22.07). He was followed by
Joey Mulvehill (22.31), and
Evan DeGidio (22.40). Other winners on the afternoon included
Luis Santiesteban in the 200 (2:02.64),
Ben Detar in the 100 fly (54.85),
Brad Ranson in the 100 free (47.62) and
Ryan Cichielo in the 100 breast (1:02.89).
Both relay teams came away with wins. The 200 medley relay squad of Plunkett, Cichielo, Ranson, and DeGidio placed first with a time of 1:38.38. The 200 relay quartet of Whitenack, Mulvehill, Santiesteban, and Ranson posted a winning time of 1:27.41.
