Bombers Sweep Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. --  The Ithaca College men's and women's diving teams competed in the Dick Comanzo Memorial Invitational on Sunday at the Athletics & Events Center Aquatics Pavilion.

Ithaca swept the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, as both the men and the women took the top spot amongst seven total teams. Nickie Griesemer (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) took first in the 1-meter and 3-meter for the women, while Matt Morrison (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) paced the field in both boards for the men. Ten women and 10 men participated; with a total of 20 NCAA qualifying scores posted in the 11-dive championship format.

Morrison paced the field of nine entries in the 1-meter with a score of 569.95, easily meeting the NCAA qualifying standard. Morrison's score set a team and pool record in the 11-dive format, while his split score at 350.155 set a program record at six dives. Alex Shabecoff (Greenwich, Conn. /Suffield Academy) finished seventh in the 1-meter, earning a score of 309.30. Morrison also took the top spot in the 3-meter dive, earning a score of 506.35. Shabecoff totaled a score of 335.15, taking eighth.

Griesemer finished first in the 1-meter with a personal best score of 477.95, edging out teammate Heather Markus (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) who finished in second with a score of 457.75. Emily Warfle (Owego, N.Y./Owego) finished fifth with a total of 436.40, marking the third Bomber to earn a NCAA qualifying score in the event. Griesemer paced the 3-meter dive with a score of 496.50, once again narrowly beating out Markus (481.35) in second place. Warfle took fourth with a score of 453.50, while Brianna Shontz (Delran, N.J./Holy Cross) barely missed the NCAA qualifying standard with a score of 409.00.
