Houghton Women's Soccer Earns Gold Team Ethics Award
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced that the Houghton Women’s Soccer team, and head coach David Lewis, are one of twenty-five Division I, II, III, Junior College and NAIA men's or women's programs to receive a 2013 NSCAA Team Ethics Gold Award. The Gold standard for the Team Ethics award is reserved for collegiate soccer teams displaying the utmost in sportsmanship by receiving no yellow or red cards during the season.
This marks the 11th time the Highlander program has received this honor.
In all, 254 teams received either the Gold, Silver or Bronze version of the College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.
Gold: No cards accumulated during the season
Silver: No red cards and no more than five yellow cards accumulated during the season
Bronze: No more than 10 cards accumulated during the season
The Alfred University and Stevens Institute of Technology women's teams earned the Silver Award for the 2013 season.
