Dr. Margaret L. Drugovich, president of Hartwick College, has begun her appointment as chair of the President’s Council of the Empire Athletic Conference (E8).

Drugovich was elected unanimously when the Council met for its annual meeting in December 2013. Her two-year term as chair began July 1 as she replaced former chair Dr. Donald Braveman, president of Nazareth College.

"We are very fortunate that Dr. Drugovich has agreed to serve as the Chair of the Empire 8 President's Council,” said President Braveman. “She is a strong advocate for Division III athletics and for our conference."

Dr. Drugovich became the tenth president of Hartwick College in July 2008, after serving in various senior administrative and research roles at Ohio Wesleyan University, Bryant University, and the Brown University Center for Gerontology and Health Care Research. She has served on various non-profit boards and community and educational organizations, including the Alumni Advisory Council for the Doctor of Management Program at Case Western Reserve University, the Board of Trustees of the New York Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities, the Executive Council of the American Council on Education Women's Network, and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities Committee on Accountability.

"President Drugovich has a deep commitment to Empire 8 and NCAA Division III values,” stated Empire 8 Commissioner Chuck Mitrano. “Her insight on intercollegiate athletics and higher education coupled with exceptional leadership will certainly make her a tremendous leader for Empire 8."

The Empire 8 is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and its nine member schools compete at the Division III level.

Hartwick participates in 14 sports as part of the E8: men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s lacrosse, women's soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis, and women's volleyball.
